There is only a tiny minority of people in DC that actually give a shit about the debt or the deficit. There is a slightly larger group that likes to use it for leverage, but they are totally insincere. Bang on all you want about "what needs to be done" but it ain't going to happen. That train left the station back in the 90's.

While I agree with you,

By design it can't happen. Your congress person is sent to represent your district. That means, there's this big pile of money (yes it's fictious money because they don't really have it) that's going to get doled out. It's their job to get as much of that money to be sent back to their district as possible. And every single one of them is trying to get as much of the pile as possible. That's how thy get re-elected. There really is no body of government that is looking for what's in the best interest of the entire united states.

I admit that I don't follow politics as closely as I used to so I really don't know that much about Gaetz. I just read a substack column that listed the people and organizations that are coming after him now and knowing who is enemies are makes me feel a bit better about him.   If Silicone valley, Newt Gingrich and defense industry lobbying firms are hating on him then he just might one of the few that actually stands on principle.

I need to do look into this guy a bit more.

Loved that Gaetz called out his colleagues on taking corporate lobbyist money. That was a great moment.
