For me? Solar mostly. In CA there's a variety of power sources, ranging from natural gas to hydro. There's one coal powerplant left, but it's not much of a contributor in the overall scheme. As residential energy storage (read: batteries) along with ... more »

Added reply in a thread How do I remove this bearing? 10/13/2017 9:27 AM

Harbor Freight has those for $69 With really small bearings that are too small for the tool to fit in, pull the bearing retainer out of the way, push all the bearings to one side and pull out the inner race. The remaining outer race can be removed with ... more »

I had a heck of a time figuring out why my son's YZ125 would run great for a short while, then would bog, stutter, and cause great gnashing of the teeth. A home-made leakdown tester and some soapy water revealed what nothing else would- a very minor ... more »

While I suspect that was aimed at Eil "I don't wanna go" Tomac, would that exclusion apply to riders that are currently injured, or ones that really come alive during the 2018 season?

That used to be a common occurrence. In 1973.

I wonder what the deal is with Covington. Bike issue due to the crash maybe? He certainly didn't finish that moto in accords with his ability.

Added reply in a thread XR50 hanging idle/ air leak? 9/27/2017 11:29 PM

Update: Well you called it Paw Paw. Clogged pilot. Unfortunately, no amount of air pressure, carb cleaner, Chemdip, and welding tip cleaners could unclog the circuit. I thought it was clear of obstructions; but clearly I was wrong.

Silly, everyone knows where it hits the spokes changes the sound. Closer to the hub gives a deeper, 450 like sound without the 4 stroke farty noise. Aligning the playing card up closer to the rim gives more of a 250 like sound, once again minus the farty

Added reply in a thread Rm125 cylinder difference? 9/17/2017 6:53 PM

I have a complete 02 cylinder with power valve assembly. It ran great but the transmission started popping out of gear so I parted most of the bike out.

DT-1 filters have a neoprene seal, not just the porous filter foam at the sealing point. Best filters out there.

Added reply in a thread XR50 hanging idle/ air leak? 9/10/2017 4:50 PM

XR50's don't have a pilot jet, just a tube with a fuel screw in it to adjust the flow. I've blown through the tube with pressurized air in both directions.

Added reply in a thread XR50 hanging idle/ air leak? 9/10/2017 2:51 PM

If I turn the idle screw in far enough, it'll keep running. However, that's at an rpm much higher than it should be, enough for it to take off without touching the throttle itself. I've tried the fuel screw anywhere from 1 to 3 turns out. All the way ... more »

Started new thread XR50 hanging idle/ air leak? 9/10/2017 10:43 AM

Picked up a 2000 XR50 that had been in storage for several years. Replaced the clogged petcock, dump some fresh fuel in there and it runs, but acts like it has an air leak. The idle stays really high, until it drops down enough to just stall out. Riding ... more »

Added reply in a thread Any reason not to run oem Yamaha pistons? 8/31/2017 3:31 PM

OEM stuff is usually a really good way to go, I prefer them over aftermarket usually. To keep the engine fresh and just to be safe I change them out as regularly. Use an hour meter. Maybe the P.O. bought the spare kit after the Vertex was installed? ... more »
