Baggett, Bloss, Alix Unfazed by Weather at Unadilla MX | Team RMATVMC-KTM-WPS Race Report

Payson, UT (Aug.15, 2017) – Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS returned to racing this past weekend for round 10 of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series at Unadilla MX in New Berlin, NY. The torrential rain didn’t faze the team riders, as Blake Baggett continued his charge for the championship, Benny Bloss rode to a top ten and Dakota Alix rode to another impressive ride.

Rider Reports

Blake Baggett: 5th Place Overall (450MX Class)

Refreshed after the week break, Blake Baggett took to the Unadilla track during the morning practice session to post the 3rd fastest time of the day.

He launched out of the gate in moto 1, rounding the first turn in the 3rd position. The changing track conditions didn’t faze Blake as he put on a charge and made the pass for 2nd place. As the rain started to come down midrace, Blake found the fast lane around the wet Unadilla track, catching up to the leader and challenging for the lead several times. After a hard-fought battle, Blake finished the moto a well-deserved 2nd place.

With torrential rain flooding the track for moto 2, Blake took off from the gate and rounded the first turn inside the top ten. The rain-soaked track proved tricky, as Blake went down early in to the moto while running inside the top ten. He remounted and, thanks to Engine Ice keeping his engine from overheating, charged back to finish 11th. His 2-11 score earned him 5th place overall, and he continues to hold 2nd place in the championship points.

“Today was challenge out there,” said Blake. “While the conditions were not ideal, I felt confident out there today and showed even with my thumb injury I am still here to win a championship. We are ready for these last two rounds to fight for this title.”

Dakota Alix: 12th Place Overall (450MX Class)

Dakota Alix came in to Unadilla prepared and proved even in the sloppiest conditions that he won’t back down.

Dakota started moto 1 inside the top twenty. He steadily worked his way forward, never letting the worsening conditions get the best of him. At the checkered flag, he finished 13th.

Another solid start in moto 2 gave Dakota perfect track position as the track was flooded from the heavy rain. He rode smart and worked his way through the field. He made his way to 12th place by the checkered flag. His 13-12 score earned him 12th place overall.

Benny Bloss: 10th Place Overall (450MX Class)

Benny Bloss started moto 1 inside the top twenty. He then proceeded to work his way forward through the field. He kept it on two wheels and finished the first moto in 15th place.

A better start in moto 2 allowed Benny a better position after the first lap. As the weather continued to worsen, Benny got better with every lap as he put on a charge into the top ten. He stayed strong and was rewarded with an 8th-place finish at the checkered flag. His 15-8 score earned him 10th place overall.

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS now heads to Budds Creek MX in Mechanicsville, MD, for round 11 of the 2017 Pro Motocross Championship.
