I'm disappointed in this, professional athletic accolades aside. Lactate does not "lock muscles up," it is a fuel. Your body produces lactate in response to exercise intensity. When glycogen stores are running low, carbohydrates need to be shuttled from non-working muscles to working muscles, the heart and the brain. In addition, the more glycogen that is stored, the more lactate is released, and the faster it is oxidized as a fuel.
