I agree to a certain extent. As stated above, it is cool to see some of these past heroes mixing it up with each other. I think they need some new classes. I was looking at +25, +30, +40, +45, and +50. All of them are STACKED!!! I was thinking where

Wishing Stroupe the best on and off the track. He is fast, but the 'ol bald guy on the 11 year old bike will probably prevail in this one.

Added reply in a thread Are bike builds misleading? 7/30/2016 8:40 AM

It is a labor of love. I have built quite a few bikes from the ground up and in the end you MAY save some money, but that is not the point. I built an RMZ450 a little over a year ago and I kept close track of the expenses. I was into it about $5000.00, ... more »

If the head is in good shape you are looking at around $1000.00 to fix. 5.6 hours Yamaha might look at helping you out, but at 56 they will be out I am sure.

On a four stroke just idling for three to five minutes with be smoking hot. It is best to ride it around for a bit, so you have some airflow. If not, a minute or two is all you need.

Added reply in a thread 2016 YZ250F cam issues 7/28/2016 8:33 PM

I would agree with the other posts and say that it was too tight and/or is starved for oil. If an oil passage was blocked it would cause this. Also starting the bike with no oil will do this. As pointed out above, the head and the cam are now recycling ... more »

Added reply in a thread 2008 YZ450F Valve replacement questions 7/28/2016 8:19 PM

The area I have pointed out on the valve usually gets sharp when the valves are bad. Most Honda CRF250s that I rebuild, can cut paper with the valve. This valve looks just fine.

Added reply in a thread 2008 YZ450F Valve replacement questions 7/28/2016 3:41 PM

I would base replacement upon the condition of the valves. If the mating surface is getting sharp, the valves are getting worn out. Another way to tell is the size of the shim that you are using. If you are getting toward the thin side of the shim selection, ... more »

If the machine has time on it, just leave the bearings in there. They will do everything needed as stated above, but when you get the parts back you can just press the old bearings out and then the bearing races and mating surfaces will be untouched ... more »

He smoked them down in the PIR race, I was hoping to see how he stacked up on his home track. I really think he has top 10 potential there.

Added reply in a thread Header to Mid pipe loose fit 7/22/2016 9:44 PM

This union should be as tight as possible. Is it a full system? I have never seen an aftermarket full system that was loose at any junction. It will, as you have seen, cause a backfire. On a stock system if the header seal or the header to muffler seal ... more »
