A Day in the Dirt 2006

We can think of just about exactly one weekend a year where you can get in more riding than your body will allow, see more ex-National champs than you'll find outside of the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, and more smiles than…well, just about anywhere filled with guilty pleasures. That pretty much sums up A Day in the Dirt.

Billed as a Motocross Grand Prix, this year the race was held at Competitive Edge MX Park in Hesperia, CA, and the course was fast, well-maintained, and judging by the number of blisters we saw, really rough. When we asked Erik Kehoe if it was mostly fourth- and fifth-gear terrain, he laughed and said, "Fourth for me…I don't shift to fifth because I don't want to go that fast!"

Over the course of the weekend we spotted Jeff Ward, Jeff Emig (who's pretty excited about his new TV announcing gig for the upcoming Supercross season), Ron Lechien, Rick Johnson, and plenty of other fast old-timers and up-and-coming guys.

Results? They don't seem quite as important for this one as the fun, camaraderie, and riding…and for this one, that's how it should be. But you can click the following link to check out photos from the 2006 edition of A Day in the Dirt.
