High Point Motocross - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

We're back from a week off! It sure was  a nice break, but I couldn't wait for the races to start this past Saturday. So with that being said, let's just jump straight into the best and the worst of High Point.

250 Class

The Good: Zach Osborne | 2nd Place

It's no secret that Zach Osborne is very fast on a dirt bike, so you might be surprised to find out that Zach had never won on U.S. soil before the first 250 moto at High Point. It's been a long time coming for him, and I couldn't be happier for him. Unfortunately, he didn't win the overall due to Joey Savatgy winning the tiebreaker, but it was a great day for Zach and the Rockstar Husqvarna crew nonetheless. I wouldn't be surprised if Zach wins a few more motos before the season is over.

The Bad: Jessy Nelson | DNS

I was surprised when I saw the dreaded DNS next to Jessy's name as the 30 second board was going up for 250 moto one. I was very curious as to why he didn't line up, and so were some other Vital members that were hanging out in the forum race thread. We never got an answer as the broadcast never addressed it, but GuyB informed me on Sunday that Jessy actually suffered a knee injury while he was down at Thunder Valley, and as a result was questionable heading into the motos. In the end, he decided to sit out High Point, but I hope he's feeling better and able to line up for Muddy Creek.

The Ugly: Star Racing Bike Issues

Star Racing had a terrible day at High Point. In moto one, title contender Alex Martin's bike let go in the waning moments of the race. Then, in moto two, defending champion Jeremy Martin had problems with his bike and it eventually shut off. None of the other riders on the team had issues, but that didn't ease the pain of having their top two riders each lose a possible 25 points in one race. There's no doubt the Martin brothers were not happy, but I can guarantee the team was even more frustrated with the situation than they were. I just hope they figure out whatever the issue was before next week.

450 Class

The Good: Marvin Musquin | 3rd Place

450 class rookie Marvin Musquin has been good this year but not as good as I expected. So this podium was a step in the right direction. He looked very impressive during the first moto and was good enough in the second moto to claim third overall. I think as we get into the second half of the season we'll start seeing a lot more of Marvin on the podium.

The Bad: Weston Peick | 10th Overall

Another week, another huge crash for Weston Peick. He's had more crashes than I can count this year, and it's a miracle he hasn't been seriously injured in any of them. On the bright side, he still rode to a tenth place overall finish despite the huge crash. Hopefully he can keep it on two wheels for both motos at Muddy Creek.

The Ugly: Josh Grant | DNF

Unfortunately, it looks like Josh may have picked up a leg/ankle injury and may be out for a bit. He's been a great fill-in rider for Monster Energy Kawasaki, so it's a bummer to see him get hurt. It's not confirmed that he will sit out next week, so there's a chance we'll get lucky and he'll be on the gate in Tennessee.
