After a short break, the MX2 riders lined up for their second and final moto, while the Open class riders lined up for their first round.

Leading the charge through the first turn in moto two was Team USA's Ivan Tedesco, who led the first nine laps (of 15).

Some of the most competitive racing of the day was between Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki teammates Ben Townley and Ryan Villopoto, who passed each other repeatedly during the early stages. During that span they also worked their way past new MX2 World Champ, Christophe Pourcel of Team France, who'd started second, but crashed on the third lap.

Tedesco led the first nine laps before he was passed by former MX2 World Champ, Antonio Cairoli. Ryan Villopoto (behind Ivan) had an off-track excursion at mid-moto, which allowed Townley by, but late in the moto he not only caught and passed Townley, but Tedesco as well. Ivan finished sixth in this moto.

Seeing Antonio Cairoli move to the head of the pack had the Italian crew and fans going wild. Watching him doing it aboard an MX2 (250F) bike was impressive.

After the checkers flew in the second moto, the U.S. had an 18-point lead over New Zealand (31 to 13 for the U.S.), and had an additional three points over Italy, who had a 34-point total.
