Friday was the first chance for the entire field to jump on the track at the start of the 2006/2007 Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP. There were lots of new faces in new uniforms and on new bikes for the first time, but the top of the Supercross lap charts looked really familiar, as James Stewart was quickest in both sessions… +0.193 in the first round, and +0.249 in the second round. He was followed by Ricky Carmichael in both sessions, who led Chad Reed.

Today was also a test for the new timed practice format, which is considered part of the competition, rather than just open practice sessions. The push was on during the rider's meeting for them to make complete laps, and not to cut the course. If they're caught cutting the course during practice, not only will they lose that lap, but their next quickest lap as well. More cutting will result in stiffer penalties, all the way up to losing their times for the whole session.

The course was in Friday practice mode, with no whoop section in place. The jump faces also packed quite a bit, leaving some big ruts for the riders to deal with. However other sections of the course were pretty loose and rocky. It will definitely make for some interesting racing tomorrow night.
