1988 RM125 - new project looking for motor

I picked up a "complete" 88 RM125 today. When I got it home I discovered it has an 85 RM125 motor sitting in it. Seeing as it needs rebuilt, I decided to see if I could learn what other RM125 motors might blt in to my 88 chassis before I rebuild the 85. I was wondering if an RM250 motor might bolt in. If so I might look for either a 125 or 250.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated

Could any of you give me an idea of RM125 motors that would bolt in? I don't mind fabbing stuff when I need to but sure would like to minimize the "adoption"

If the 85 motor is mounted correctly and fits right, youd be better off using that instead of the 88 motor lol.

thank you for the input. Would you mind telling me why you think so? I was out of moto after 81 till 2000 and didn't keep track of what was good and what wasn't back then - thanks in advance for anything you'd care

I thought it was an 86 model lol. The 88 engine was a lot better than the 85. Sorry!
