Loving all the 125 builds going up so here is the start of mine. I picked this up not too long ago for a great price. After a little tlc, she is (safely) rideable. It needs a strip down, good clean, and fresh coat to the frame. I like the gun metal stock frame paint color but, throw me some options or ideas? Looking for some black rims/blue hubs. Exhaust has a good ding and the silencer bolt mount is broke which wont hold much longer. Going to go with the carbon fiber pro circuit silencer and Id like to find a works pro circuit pipe for it. Anyone know where I can get my hands on one? This will be a slower build due to having too many toys but it sure has my attention at the moment. Shoot me some ideas and other kx builds you all have done. Thanks!

I have a couple of works pipes. The maybhave a ding or so in them. The problem is 03 was a single year bastard bike. I will look at my pipes tonite and see what I have.

I appreciate it. What exactly is not interchangeable between my 03 to 04 & 05? I know they are nearly the same bike but I have heard of the 03 being a single bastard bike in areas

I am building the same bike as you. 04 pipes will work, you just have to do a bit of fab work. Suspension uses the old school "dog bone" linkage. Front brake still uses the old school brake line routing. Nothing that is too big of a deal.

You can see my thread here:

ON THE BELT LINE IN DECATUR! :-)

I shall give you a pleasant holiday surprise. You have a 2004 + KX125. The best sign is the black dot on the swingarm that the 2003s do not have. The linkage had a big change that year. Also, the front brake routing. Also, the tenth digit of a VIN is the year code, so you may want to check that out.

I want to say that is 2004 due to the color of the ignition cover. My 2005 is a bit darker. That was one of several 2004 - 2005 changes.

Cool bike! Take it to Sand Mountain MX or Mclarty MX!

Out here by Libbys catfish & the celebration arena! You might just have made my christmas with that info lol I have never actually considered the year as I thought they were all the same & I picked it up off a kid that didn't realize the jewel he had. I'll check the VIN this evening. Sand MTN and Mclartys are some of the only tracks this bike has seen!

Good catch, definitely not an 03.

I had an 04 brand new another change is the piston the 03 had the locating pin for the ring off centered. The 04 was centered again on the intake and the carb reed block boot was shortened in 04 with less of a hook. Along with the pipe was supposed to be a pro circuit copy and slightly different porting.

03 had the kyb rubber bumper forks and the 04 got the kyb bladder forks. Also different triple clamps along with foot pegs raised 5mm. Also the front brake line routing and guards. Taller seat foam.

Only changes 05 had was graphics taller seat foam again darker coating on clutch and ignition covers and triple clamps. Along with a unmentioned change to the left center case. The bearing the one shaft for the transmission got a better oil groove/channel done.

If you try to buy center cases the part number is now super seceeded to the 05 number.

I had the unfortunate experience with my 04 and that bearing exploding. It's the same shaft the clutch push rod runs through.

The lower bearing in the shock mounting wears out quick it's hidden behind the spacers.

It is indeed an 04. Which leads me to my next question. My first ride on it she blew the top end so I ordered a wiseco piston kit for an 03 and installed it and it runs great. So basically the changes are not crucial? I read that you can out an 03 piston in the 04 cylinder but can not put an 04 style in the 03, correct?

Not much of an update but I am slowly but surely collecting parts. Recently swapped my stock wheels with a buddy for some black wheels. I'm ready to throw some parts at this thing!

Slight update. As I'm ordering parts, I have trouble finding one of the header mount brackets that is broke. Reason be is I was looking at a 2004 diagram which doesn't show it(because it doesnt exist on the 2004-up). I then realize one of the previous owners rigged a 2003 exhaust system on it... They drilled a hole and bolt/nut for the mount to fit and as it does on the 03s. They have the clutch cable attached to where the top exhaust mount goes at the threads. Is that where that is suppose to be routed? Here's to hoping I don't find anything else rigged or patched from wrong year models.Once I collect all my parts, It will get a full tear down, inspect, clean/paint, and build.

I don't care what anyone says, the newer front fender and numberplate on these is cool. If you get the notion to sell the black plastics, let me know!

I also believe the fuel petcock was slightly different from 2005 onwards.

This Kawasaki 51023-1395 TAP-ASSY,FUEL fits the following models and components:

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2003 KX125 - KX125-M1 Fuel Tank

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2003 KX250 - KX250-M1 Fuel Tank

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2004 KX250 - KX250-M2 Fuel Tank

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2004 KX125 - KX125-M2 Fuel Tank

Kawasaki Motorcycle 2005 KX125 - KX125-M3 Fuel Tank

The 2008 KX125 has the same part as the 2007 KX250. I think 2006 - 2008 (KX125 and KX250) have a different part. (-0020)

Replaced that jank 03 exhaust that was on it with the correct hardware and fresh pc system. I bought a new 250f that needs a few of my usual comfort parts so collecting 125 build parts has slowed a bit. Picked up some Flo motosports TI sprocket bolts that I saw Rob Fox running on his kx250 build and I think they pop well.

Here’s an updated pic of the green smoker, I’ve recently just changed up the color scheme and put some bolt ons on. Just want to give you guys a heads up if you’re doing a kx 125 build and want to run all green plastics. UFO makes the best green color. I had acerbis shrouds and rear fender on it and when I got my ufo number plates in, they made the acerbis green look so dull. So I replaced the shrouds and fender with ufo and it all matches now. Hard to see the detail but they are noticeably different greens in person

Hello, I am looking for a 2004, 05, 06 Kawasaki (or Suzuki) 125 steel perimeter frame rolling chassis - looking to do an electric conversion.
