I know the 13 has a hour meter built in that displays the time in a code of blinks, does anyone know if the 12's have this as well?

I don't know the answer to your question, but that is a pretty good idea. No more bullshit when you go to sell or buy one of those down the road. I see bikes for sale all the time, and the seller says "only has 20hrs on it". Freaking things look like they have been dragged down the interstate behind a dump truck.

no, it doesn't. the 13 has an optional one, Part No. 36380-28H00. not sure if it would work on a 12 or not.

read here:
http://motocrossactionmag.com/Main/News/f93bc35f-68c9-42b7-a610-610187aff7b2.aspx

" A brand new option for 2013 – riders can now easily track engine-operating time and better manage maintenance intervals using Suzuki’s optional FI indicator light (Part no. 36380-28H00)."

They should all have them! Especially the 13's.The big down fall in buying a used 450f or 250f . I'm so scared of buying that grenade, thats why the used 4 stroke market sucks. kinda like buying a new car, lose sooo much value as soon as you start it. Plus we all know how the wallet gets super super light if you grenade one.

I always put them on my bike, but for the first time in years i'm getting a used bike. I've never understood why they don't come stock.

The GET wireless costs a little more but it just sticks to the frame. No wires. Starts up from the vibrations of the bike running. Very cool.

yeah, these can all be taken off. I thought the one on the suzuki was built into the ecu so it couldn't be tampered with. That is the one I am referring to. I have put one of the regular old hour meters on all of my bikes from day one, and sell them with them still on there with whatever hours they have.

Well if any one owns a 12 or 13 rmz 450. I would think the info would at least be in the manual or service manual.

Even if the bikes came with one built in, say for example in the ECM you could always just slap a new ECM on a clapped out bike and claim it had less hours. Kinda like people putting junk yard speedometers with less miles in used cars except easier.

MXA talked about it again in their '13 RMZ450 test. I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like the hour meter comes built into the ECU - the optional part is just needed to access it.

"You need Suzuki’s optional fuel injection indicator light (P/N 36380-28H000) to access the codes (not to mention a quick eye to read the flashing light). There is an hour meter embedded in the ECU, but it also reports its time with flashing lights. Yes, you read that right. Thomas Alva Edison would be impressed, but most racers probably wouldn't be."

My friend has a 2012 YZF450, that he says has an hour meter built in, but you need the device to access it. I have no idea whether this is correct, though.

I usually put hour meters on my new bikes and I agree that built in meters are a good idea.

yeah, that is very possible, but not likely. Think about it, if someone is lying about how many hours are on a bike, they are not likely to buy another ECU to slap on it as they are trying to get every last penny out of it. Also with cars now a days you would have to swap the ECU to change the miles as well, not sure about the clusters though. I think they display what they are "told" to display

I'm just saying, it wouldn't be foolproof. I would not put it past some scammers to do it. Think about it. If I have a somewhat heavily used 2013 RMZ450, I can spend $350 on a new ECM and claim the bike has 20 hours instead of 160. And now I even have a spare ECM for my 2014 RMZ450 or I just sell the spare on ebay and recoup most of my money.

hmm, well that makes sense. i did an image search for the part number and this came up from Yosh.

says it fits 10 - 13's i have a 12 and never saw anything about it in the manual, i guess it would take a ph call to yosh....

Found this thread searching I bought the fi light everyone talks about using to show hours but you also have to buy a lead wire assy from Suzuki and hook it up to a 12 volt battery to make the fi light work according to my now found manual.

So I now have to spend another 43 bucks or so to get the wire and buy a battery at this point I'm probably just going to do it cause I have no idea what hours are on my 13 rmz it's never had a hour meter

Ive had both a 12 and 13 rmz 450. If the 12 had it i knew nothing about it, I just put a works connection one on it before i ever rode. When I was buying the 13 I read about that as if it was something new that they had done. That being said I dont have the wire or tool to check it on the bike. Bike only has about a hour on it so no need for it yet Tongue
