Is there any news on a release date for next years model? Seems like it was Feb for this years bike if I remember correctly.

Looking to make a return after a 5-6 yr break......

Thanks....

Probably the usual, late January to February. Official news won't come out until December.

and I heard from a very reliable KTM source that the 18 FE450 is going to be all new and that it's quite possibly the last yr for it as well. Please look into this for us Vitards Michael :-)

Oh no..... the wait, plus the feeding frenzy with it being the "last year FE"... Wonder why they would kill a solid item. Cant be losing anything.

Might just have to look for a left over 2017.5..

thanks Digger.

Like ML mentioned. We'll probably see official info of the bike in December and the first bikes will hit the dealers in Jan, Feb, March.

But the demand of the bikes will probably be massive just like in 2015 and 2016 so that you'll be lucky to get one.

I guess that we in Europe wont see them since US needs them because of the homologation rules? Anyways, i will wait for the regular 2019 models that will show up the summer of 2018.

Just get a left over 17 with the rebate.

FE doesn't have many changes.

The 2018 FE will be a brand new bike.

Maybe the new model will be 5 pounds under the minimum ama pro race weight which will help the other 99.99% of the riders on them.

What's on my wish list?

- A 250SX (two stroke) factory edition with cone valve forks

- To be 19 again

- Carrie Bolling

I'll take any two of the above. Come to think of it, I don't really need a 250SX....

I got a chance to ride the 17.5 FE at Cahuilla this past Saturday. with the new fork valving and the right sag setting, it is as close to a perfect dirt bike as I've ever ridden. I have got to update my 17's forks to the 18 spec.

Even then, I couldn't keep up with ML ripping on a damn KTM 125

Go buy the 17.5. you will be a happy camper regardless...

Yes please.

Because who ever set up the stock WP AER forks were high. They are junk in stock form.

It's hard to imagine what they will change. How can you make a great bike better?

On the 250f I could go for a strong engine off the bottom and if possible it could drop a few pounds?

Hardware that doesn't look like it came out of a scrap bin is what they should be focusing on now. If they can up the hardware to dare I say it, "Suzuki" standards, I may buy another one.

Who did you have do yours? I love the shock on my bike, but the forks are only mediocre in small chop....good bottoming resistance though

I haven't had them re-valved yet. Doing that now, Slipdog is hooking me up.

But in stock form I couldn't get them to work well at all. Very vague feeling and no real progression until further in the stroke. Either rock hard or too soft but nothing much in between IMO

Bottoming resistance is good, one good area of the fork to me.

Did you do anything to your shock?? or still in stock form?

Something else KTM could do to change for the better an all new model:

Change the front fender design

I agree 100% with your fork observations. They actually have pretty good feedback in rutted turns (which we have a lot of in PA), but when I hit hard/flat turns the forks are just meh. Small chop I cannot get them to work, big breaking bumps they are not bad. I run 145psi. Have tried a bunch of pressures and that is the best I have found.

Shock it stock, 102mm sag and I would have to check my notes for everything else lol. I am 175-180lbs, depending on pizza consumption, in my birthday suit. I've got 30+A speed for about 3 laps, where the bike works really well. It seems the faster I go, the better the shock works. A lowering link would probably benefit this KTM chassis a bunch as I feel it rides a bit high in the rear.

Let me know how your re-valve works, I will probably put up with it until the end of the year....But definitely plan on doing something over the winter.

Edit: 145 is what I meant, not 135...fat finger syndrom

Wait -

...are you saying that you run AER 48 at 135 PSI ? I weigh 178, and I have to run them at least 153 PSI (10.6 Bar) to keep them from bottoming on even the smallest of jumps, did you change your oil level?

That was suppose to be 145, my bad. I just checked and I've got my compression at 12 out and rebound at 9 out. I rarely if ever bottom, and can still put up a descent pace for a few laps. I started out in the 150's and went down until I got comfortable.

I'm sure we're not far away from these bikes reaching $15K (electric will be $20k). Not too long after - $20K (electric $25K). Man if I only got raises like that at work
