Last year they came out on Sept 20th, 2017. I guess we will know in a few days whether or not Stew kept his number. - Edit I posted this minutes before the news was official.

How did Malcolm earn a career number?
9/20/2017 2:07pm
Malcolm and Justin Hill get career numbers but were never top 10 in points? Are you seriously giving out career numbers to East/West champs now?!

Yes, 250SX champions get to pick two-digit career numbers now.

Sweet thanks for that tidbit. It's the most we have heard out of Stew since A1.

My guess is he runs select rounds as a farewell tour. Have you heard anything?

Agree that's how we do it up here. It's fun to see riders with new numbers/ride. Doesn't take that long to learn the numbers and if you can't well there's a ticker at the top/side of the screen that scrolls with the rider's name and number.

Ok so here's a concept... if a rider is still eligible for a two digit non-career number. Why don't they just offer the rider to stay with the number they have and let the newbies "fill in the blanks"?

Less rider number changes more continuity for the fans.

... hell it could be handled with a handout at the last national for a bunch of them. Do you want to keep your number?

Pretty sure Nick Wey scored more points than JS7 in 2017, but he loses his career number (to Mookie of all people) and JS7 sends a letter and keeps his. The whole system is a mess.

The whole career number thing blows. It was a lame attempt to copy Napcar. Run what ya earn....was always cool seeing the new riders/numbers combo every year

Curious how this all works.. will Hansen be forced to run 72? Or will he have the option of choosing his number 100?

He petitioned and got to run the 100. I thought he had made a case because it was his "brand" or whatever making it his career number.

Now 72 is listed as his 2018 number. Not sure why 100 doesn't have an * signaling that it's his career number like the 800 of Alessi.
