We all know the drivers but we are all clueless as to how the new car will shake up the team hierarchy.

Who thinks Honda will become suddenly competitive? Or to that point will Mercedes lose it's obvious performance advantage bringing the field closer together?

No matter, it's going to be an interesting season.

Hey Scotty ... hope you're enjoying the rain !

I don't have time to keep up on all the doings (believe it or not your entries here are very informative to this rube Wink ) from the different teams so spill some of the engine changes Honda did to "Merc" their car up ....

Thanks !

You know how they have the turbo on one side of the motor and the MGU on the other? Separating the two hottest parts from each other and connect them with a sorta drive line that passes through the motor. They are the only power unit to do this, ill post pics when they come out. Now Honda is copying them.

I read a article that said the new cars would be 4 to 5 seconds faster a lap.

Significant but will make passing harder I'd think since its mostly aero

Have you seen the new tires? big fat wide rear tires like the oldschool cars. Turning speeds are gonna be way high. Gription level to the max!

Ok so seconds faster per lap equates into more catastrophic wrecks when it all goes to hell. That's not my idea of fun. I know I'm an old crusty from back in the day (Andretti's '78 championship car is F1 personified) but the multi faceted wings and their demonic offspring "winglets" are just ridiculous to me.
Square centimeter allowances with a max of three front wings and two rear would probably be nearly as good and be infinitely cheaper.
Since I'm rambling on, teams should be allowed two or three configurations of each wing presented for inspection the week before the first race. Those are the only wings allowed for the season.
Ok Scotty I've got stuff to do so chew on those thoughts for a bit... hope Shasta uses their spillway soon, just checked ... 32feet more till considered full. That's fantastic!

While I can understand the need to keep pushing engine and hybrid development for the trickle down effect to everyday cars, are they still learning/developing aero tech? I can't see how those works of art (and they really are works of art) front wings and rear ends are every going to applicable to road cars. In which case why not go back to very limited aero and develop more mechanical grip. Its the aero that makes over taking difficult.

I fully agree with you on that one, and the new 2017 rules we will see way more aero than we have seen in years, makes no sense to me.

Bernie Ecclestone’s departure from Formula One could happen within a matter of days as Liberty are poised to place new figures in charge.

Buh Bye Bernie!

Manor closed its doors. Bummer.

In any case they showed their 50% 2017 car model.

Something to watch if you've got 20 or so min ... the aerofoil issue is hilarious ... "ban them forever" ... pretty good stuff actually.

... and the camera op seems to fancy the women's ass.

Lewis Hamilton gave his first impression of the Mercedes W08 which is due to be launched on Thursday. “I mean it looks like a boat,” he said. “It’s so big, so much bigger than before. It’s wider, longer.”

LOL!

Lewis Hamilton is why we're having bathroom discussions.

Sounded funny in my head.

I'm excited to see what type of sophomore season the Haas guys can have. I thought K-Mag was a good signing.

Also, I'm pumped to see what Bottas can do in the Tri-Star.

Pfffft

Its ALL MOOT when a team like Merc can "create" problems AND when a driver (coughs lewis) sandbags to win.

Which was worse?
Lewis sandbagging to win
OR
Nico needing to finish 3rd to win.

Ill watch nascar this summer, that way I can skip the whole race till the last lap when Jimmy Johnny taps the back of the current leader to win....

I agree with Lewis. Too much tech. Shit, we even see it in MX. Make it a bit simpler and let the riders do some racing, rather than engineers.

F1 2017 Explained: Power Unit

This is ridiculous, they are now down to just 4 power units to last the whole season before penalties occur.

https://youtu.be/zvivLc8UtIY

btw: the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport youtube channel rules! There is so much info on there.

...and yes insomnia is kicking my ass and i cant sleep. Figured i'd geek out on F1.

Those cars are just the sickest form of engineering and craftsmanship.
