Your restorations are what are going to get you banned from here as us mortals will put in to have you thrown out (insert jealous voice). I don't think they came from the factory in the amazing condition you turn them into. So hard to even look at my 60 to do without aiming for your quality.

Seeing a build like this makes me want to tear my 94 apart again. lmao

That Caswells kit seems to be the way to go. I tried using the Eastwood kit but wasn't happy with the results and just sent my stuff out after.

Who did the frame decal?

Sweet build man!

Hi Guys

After finishing all 80cc Mini bikes from 1980, I picked up an RM80D 1983 first water cooled from craigslist a couple of months ago and I been working on that mini beauty since then.
To be honest, when I bought I knew it was in bad shape, but I never thought it was so rough, even the guy I bought it from New Jersey, for who knows the reason after I got it, never replied me again when i send him a couple of pictures of the progress as he asked me for!
I will be posting some pictures of the before and some of the progress

That's a great job.. I'm doing an a 92 Kx80 now .. what did you use to clean the parts you are reusing. I think you were looking for a Kx80 pattern for a tank decal on a post I put on here with some of the 90's decals I have.

Hi

To clean the parts that will be powder coat, they get sandblasted
To clean all hardware that will be zinc plated, first gasoline ,second wire wheel and then a solution of HCL at 50% to remove old plating

Nice!!! I would love to find an 84 RM 80 to build a Healy R&D replica. His machine at Ponca that year was incredible to say the least! Best sounding Supermini I've ever heard in my life.

Absolutely outstanding work!
How many hours of sanding would you estimate it took to get the tank back to that condition. How did you have the frame VIN decal made? Just really outstanding.

So awesome!!!

macolmedo what size copy-cad kit did you buy from Caswell? I'm about to get one but wasn't sure if the 1.5 gallon was big enough.

I'm doing this 82 RM80 now, but it will be a racer and not done to the detail you have done that 83. But I still want to plate some stuff and get that going.

Not yet, I have to finish this 83, and then I will do a 78 rm80 and finally, it will be the 91 kx80 big wheel
Have you started any kx80 yourself?

Oh God, that 82 is in one piece! really nice bike
Did you have it for many years or you just got it?
Get the 3-gallon kit, I started with the 1.5 gallons and then moved to the 3-gallon kit, but that way you won't need to buy after all the 3-gallon buckets.
The 1.5 kit will do all small hardware, but you need the 3 kit for larger parts (wheel axles, swingarm axle, etc)

Thanks sounds like the 3 gallon kit will be mine after I get back from Mini Os!

I've been looking for an 82 casually for a while, and this thing popped up on CL in Michigan a few months ago and I picked it up. I currently have it all stripped down and frame, etc are at powdercoater.

My friends son is a nationally ranked mini racer and he'll be racing it a bit next next year like at Mid Ohio VMD.

This year he raced my 1980 RM80 there and I want to upgrade him to the '82. I'm stil ltrying to figure out if there are any options for exhaust, I'm not finding anything so I guess I'm stuck with stock.

I have a 92 that I need to get back together.. frustrated on the frame pc so it's been sitting after 2 different coats and still not the match I'm looking for. Debating on just putting it back together or sending it to a paint shop. Did you find your tank graphic for the 91?

If you want the exact match, you will need to use a paint shop
If not check this color from prismatic powder coat company is called Kiwi Green, I will be using that one for my 91, I think it will be really close, give me your opinion
I finally bought that Nos tank on eBay that you told me, so thanks for that one
I am posting here a picture of my collection of Kx shrouds that I have on my garage, I know you will like them
from 89 to 97, the 91 is not on that wall cause it will be on the 91 bike
I am Still looking for the 85 86 87 and 88 one
Hope you like them!

Loved the 1980 rm picture, it will be a great change from the 1980 model to the 82
I have not seen any works pipe or muffler for the 82
Actually, I have 2 of the 1980 rm's eighty, one restored completely and the other one I just found it this year and it still has the original tires(obviously dry) from the factory and not even a washer was removed from that bike, so the engine was never even touched, I replaced the engine oil, cleaned the tank and put fresh gas and it started right away ,it was sitting from that era

Awesome collection!! The 90's bikes were works of art imo. I started with kawi green then had it redone in kiwi green. I couldn't tell much difference. I used 2 different painters. I'm wondering if the second guy ordered kawi green again glancing at the paper easy misread I suppose. But this is "supposed" to be kiwi green. Different lighting

check this pictures of the Nos handlebar I have for the 91 kx80 to see the original correct color, I took this one inside

outside picture direct sunlight

original frame of the bike inside the garage, plastics should match frame color too, cause it is the same 7F lime green color code

I'm looking forward to watching your build on that kx. I'm getting my motivation back I'll end up having the frame done for a 3rd time at a paint shop. I lucked out with a lot of very mint stuff for it. I don't think it's going to end up top notch as the builds u do but it should turn out decent. Then a early 90's rm80.
