Bought a 18FC450 and rode it for the first time yesterday, the motor lacks bottom end compared to my 17 450sxf. Im going to change the gearing to 14/52, then maybe look at pulling the spark arrestor out of the muffler if possible? Otherwise maybe look at purchasing an aftermarket slip on.
Has anyone drilled holes in there airbox side plate?
The power on the husky is almost to smooth. I found myself using 2nd in corners which i never had to do on the ktm. I don't mind loosing top end power, I'm more of a lugger.

Any other mods?

I drilled holes for my fc350 and seemed to be a bit better. Nothing crazy, other than dirty air filters

Remove the screen in the exhaust, remove the backfire screen on the filter cage or get a 2 stroke cage. Aggressive map, VP T4 fuel.

Drill a few holes in the Airboz, and remove the filter screen and spark arrestor like others have said.

With a FMF pipe and also remap mine will pull 3rd all the way around the track..... 3rd gear wide open is very fast!

14/52 is good. Install a black throttle cam from a 17.

How would 14/52 be for MX? I’m debating on trying this ratio soon.

13/48 is 3:59 gearing vs.14/52 3:71 gearing. I don't think you will see much difference. 14/53 is 3:79 but you might end up with clearance issues. You get 3:85 with 13/50 gearing and 3.77 with 13/49.
I have a 17 and everything I've seen says a slip on works wonders.

I’ll have feedback soon on an FMF slip-on for my FC450.

+1 on FMF 4.1 Titan Slip-On, bottom end is much better(this was on 17 450 SX-F) than stock.

Tokyo mods were providing free remap with pipe purchase.

I would go for the full system since it solves other issues.

Adjust the tps to .620mv. Probably set to lean from the factory. KTM/Husky I have checked is set leaner than ideal.

Wow, that's a huge jump from the stock setting of .520. Did you make that adjustment on the stock bike or after a pipe and airbox holes?

First install the second throttle cam that comes with the bike (at least on KTM). That is like re-gearing it. Dont understand how people can ride without it.

Tokyo mods say not to mess with the tps since just moving the idle changes that setting

Yes it is a big change. Cusotmer's bike runs cooler now and pulls way better. Stock setting had to rev bike up a bit or it would stall.

Cheers for the replys. Im going order a fmf slip and run 14/52. Ill see how that goes first before remapping. Ive never owned an aftermarket pipe, always ran stock but wouldnt be a bad idea having a spare exhaust if i crash at race.

13/48 is *3:69 gearing vs.14/52 3:71

14-52 helps most for the decreased chain torque properties. Have also heard good things about a slip-on to wake the Husky's up, but a full system eliminates the flawed OE two piece tight fit.

I found 14/52 on my 450sxf made me not shift as much. I basically only used 3rd and 4th, not matter what the track. Always ran my rear wheel as far back in the swingarm aswell. Could be a myth but i think both things helped my rear suspension work better.

I say it again, Mount the quick turn throttle csm before trying anything else. I ran 13-49, and had to go back to 13-48 with that cam.

All I’ve done is a dr.d slip on and the bike wheelies out of every corner. Don’t think these bikes lack any power.
