Picked up an old shitter of a KX125 (1999 model) as a bit of a project and some vintage racing.

Having a massive issue with the cylinder head oozing (well, pissing) coolant after having a water pump seal go, which in turn made the coolant disappear and warp the head. Long story short after trying loads of stuff including having it skimmed, heads still leaking.

The 99, 00 and 01 heads have all been discontinued by Kawasaki, but I can get my hands on a new one from a 2002 - Does anybody know if this will slot straight on? The cylinder and cylinder head both have different Kawasaki part numbers but is this just down to configuration rather than fitment?

Any help would be massively appreciated...

It may not be the head but rather the cylinder deck that needs attention. Have them both checked.

Took both the cylinder and head to the chaps who skimmed the head. They actually took 0.2mm off both and assured me it was as close as could be to flush. Very reputable company also

When shaving the head or top of cylinder, there are 2 things that you have to be careful of. The o-ring grooves (if so equipped) can get too shallow to properly hold the o-rings and the holes that any alignment dowels go in can get too shallow and prevent the head from sitting totally flush. Check these 2 areas.
