I'm considering buying 2 sets of wrist braces for myself and son and would like to hear some feedback before spending the $. Mostly concerned about comfort vs protection level and if it could actually cause more damage like a broken forearm when the wrist extension reaches the degree limit.
Mobius is $499.99. It surely appears to be worth it from design appearance but good lord, steep.
Any other lower cost brands? I need the mobility limiting the Mobius seems to provide.
Where did you get the price of $499.00?? They are $199.00.

Mobius Wrist Brace. I have been wearing theses braces for 5 months now.
The wear and tear of the brace has proven them to be sturdy. The neoprene layer that includes the loop that attaches thru the finger on the glove has not stretched or torn, it is easily removed to wash and it does form a bit to the arm it is used on. The cables, hard plastic, adjuster pad and pivot point has survived rocks and dirt clods on the track without issue. The adjuster pad will form to the joint as well.
Comfort wearing the braces is excellent while riding. In and around the pits I leave mine on and have learned to put my helmet on with gloves. However, they are easily removed, the hardest part about putting them on is sliding the velcro strap thru the opening provided at the rear of the brace.
There was an added to benefit to the peace of mind that comes with the added protection to my recently dislocated wrist, and it was the distribution of loads on the forearm/wrist from hard landings off of jumps, that is nice benefit.
Overall, my opinion is that they are not cumbersome at all, provided one uses a thin riding glove on the wrist being protected. The price point is good and customer service at Mobius has been excellent.
I tape my wrist with athletic tape (use the under layer stuff first), and then a TLD skateboarding type wrist brace over a thin glove. The TLD brace was barely $40.

It takes some practice to find the perfect “tension” on the athletic tape and at first it is easy to wrap too tight. But I’ve got it down now and can wrap my wrist in barely 60 sec.
Left wrist and severed ligament on left wrist. When I had the casts removed, I had very limited movement. I did research on the Mobius and atlas braces. I talked to my surgeon and he told me that the wrist brace could save the wrist from another fx that would cause it to be fused. He said that the wrist brace would also potentially cause finger dislocation or fx or both. Having a fused wrist isn't as bad as having a fused finger. With a wrist, you still have dexterity and mobility. Fused fingers, you are jacked! I chose to not go down the wrist brace route.
I've tried to teach myself to crash with my hands in a fist position, but that's harder to do than I thought.

6 years later I broke it again and the doctor thought it may have been a non-union from a previous injury. She didn’t want to do surgery as she feared the piece that doesn’t get blood flow may shatter and/or die. Over a year in casts is not fun and I eventually stopped going back for checkups.
A couple years later I was fed up with the pain and not being able to ride at all. I went to a specialist surgeon and he explained that the bone never healed and probably keeps starting to fuse then brakes before it is strong enough to heal completely. He had me in surgery in a few days with the expectation that he may have to do a fusion and I would know when I wake. He was able to put a special hollow spiral screw in it that tightened from both sides so the pieces of bone are pulled tight together and do a bone graft from my radius. It took a few more years for it to heal to a point it didn’t hurt from normal day to day activities. I was told I would eventually need to fuse a few of the bones together but I truly don’t want to do that.
Now I have very limited flexibility front to back with my wrist but I have good dexterity otherwise and the pain is manageable unless I jar it pretty good. Then it hurts for a couple days but nothing like before where I had to complete immobilize it.
I have thought about getting a brace to limit the those painful hits but always thought the braces were kinda gimmicky and doubted there ability to help much without causing other issues. After hearing some of the feedback from others with similar injuries, I may just try it out.
