Blake Baggett came into the Wick ready to take on the deep sand that the track is known for. Despite having a sore thumb from an injury sustained last weekend, he proceeded to throw down a heater and set the second-fastest overall lap time in morning practice.

The gate dropped for moto 1, and Blake rounded the first turn at the front of the field, missing the first-turn carnage. He continued to set the pace as he led the field early in the race. After a heated battle for the lead, Blake slid back only one spot to 2nd place. With a comfortable gap ahead of the rest of the field, he took 2nd place at the end of the moto.

Blake once again put the power to the ground in moto 2, letting his Dunlop tires dig in the Southwick sand, almost grabbing the holeshot. He matched the pace of the leader, keeping the speed in the deep sand. In the end, Blake finished in 2nd place at the checkered flag. His 2-2 ride earned him 2nd place overall.

“It was a solid day,” said Blake. “I rode well out there, and to leave here with 2nd overall is good. We are looking forward to the week off, getting healed up and coming back strong at Millville.”

Dakota Alix: 13th Place Overall (450MX Class)

Dakota Alix launched out of the gate in moto 1 on the gas, and it was looking like he was going to get his first holeshot of the season. Unfortunately, he knifed the front end and went down in the first turn. He picked himself back up, pulled a tear-off from his Scott goggles and proceeded to slice his way through the field. As Engine Ice kept his bike from overheating in the deep sand, he worked his way to 12th place before going down again in the later stages. He would lose a few spots, finishing 17th at the end of the moto.

Dakota once again timed the drop of the gate perfectly in moto 2, and he rounded the first turn inside the front pack. His excellent start helped him battle inside the top ten for most of the race. He kept the speed and finished a season-best 11th at the checkered flag. His 17-11 score earned him 13th overall on the day.

Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS will have a week off before heading to Spring Creek MX in Millville, MN, for round 8 of the 2017 Pro Motocross Championship.
