DNA Energy/Jeff Ward Racing Washougal Round 8 Race Report

At the eighth round of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Washougal MX Park in Washougal, Wash., DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward  Racing rider Kyle Chisholm scored an 8-10 to finish seventh overall in the 450 class leading the charge for his team during the Washougal MX National on  Saturday. His teammate Josh Grant finished 10th overall after scoring a 17-6. Leading up to the two 450 class Motos, Grant finished the Group A first qualifying practice sixth fastest with a lap time of 2:09.480. Chisholm, who was also in Group A finished the first qualifying practice ninth fastest with a lap time of 2:09.947. In the final Group A qualifying session, Grant finished fourth quickest with a lap time of 2:08.340 to put him fourth fastest overall. Chisholm ended the final session eighth quickest with a lap time of 2:08.959 putting him eighth fastest overall.

In the first 450 Moto, Grant got out to his best start of the 2012 outdoor season settling into the second position after the drop of the gates but would go down hard on lap 2 while chasing down Mike Alessi. Grant recollected himself in the 38th spot and would make a gutsy charge from there to finish 17th. Chisholm settled into 14th after the drop of the gates and by lap 5 cracked the top-10. Four laps later he took over eighth where he would finish.

In the second 450 Moto, Grant got out to a top-10 start falling in line ninth after the drop of the gates. A lap later he took over seventh then settled into sixth by lap 6. Grant cracked the top-5 on lap 11 but would fall one spot to sixth by lap 14 where he would remain until the finish. Chisholm settled into 14th after the drop of the gates and by lap 6 climbed into the top-10 where he would remain to finish 10th giving him his second top-10 finish of the day. Chisholm’s seventh overall keeps him 10th in the standings with 137 points. Grant’s 10th overall moves him to seventh in the championship standings with 169 points.

The DNA Energy Drink / Jeff Ward Racing team has the next two weekend’s off with the schedule resuming in Southwick, Mass. for Round 9 on  Saturday, August 11.
