Double Class Victory for Pirelli at the Grand Prix of Mexico During Round Four of the FIM Motocross World Championship

Tim Gajser Wins Both Races in MXGP and Extend Championship Points Lead to 20 Points. American Thomas Covington Grabs Second Career MX2 Victory

LEON, Mexico (April 3, 2017)– The Grand Prix of Mexico was held in the historic town of Leon for the fourth consecutive year, located in the Guanajuato state. The track is located in the local park and formed by a clay-like soil that was very wet on Saturday, while becoming harder and drier for the racing action on Sunday. ThePirelliriders faced the terrain equipped by theSCORPION™ MX32™ Mid-softfront (in 80 / 100-21 size) and rear (in 110 / 90-19 size); tires that again proved their versatility and allowed the Italian brand to take victories and fill the podiums of both classes.

Reigning World Champion Tim Gajserdominated theMXGPcategory. Gajser, along with his HRC teammateEvgeny Bobryshev, were the only riders to opt for the120 / 90-19rear tire sizing. The Slovenian won the qualification heat and both motos to extend his lead in the championship standings.Pirelliswept all three steps on the podium thanks to Antonio Cairoli’sexcellent second place and a strong third place ride by Gautier Paulin.Jeremy Van Horebeek fought hard to round out the top five in the MXGP Class.

In theMX2 Class,Thomas Covingtonrepeated the victory that he achieved in 2015 by capturing his second career win in front of family and friends who made the trek South of the United States border. The American finished fourth in the first moto and won the second race.Jeremy Seewergrabbed the runner-up position overall and confirmed his lead in the championship, just ahead of LatvianPauls Jonass who was fourth in Mexico. PrivateerJulien Lieber had another great race and finished the Grand Prix in third place.

Mexico represented the last flyaway event in the opening stage of the championship and in two weeks time the FIM Motocross World Championship will return to Europe for theGrand Prix of Trentino at thePietramuratatrack in Italy.
