Pirelli Captures Overall Victories at the MXGP of Belgium in Lommel

KTM and Pirelli Riders Dominate the Belgian GP and Control the Championship Standings in Both Classes, While Herlings and Prado Triumph in MXGP and MX2.

LOMMEL, Belgium (Aug. 7, 2017) – On the newly redesigned layout of Lommel, the ultimate sand track, Pirelli tires demonstrated their great performance by dominating both Grand Prix categories. All Pirelli riders chose the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front, while opting for the SCORPION™ MX Soft rear.

A great victory was taken by Jeffrey Herlings in MXGP, confirming his status as one of the world's best sand riders. Very quick from the first practice session, when he was over two seconds faster than his rivals, the Dutchman won both races and moved to second place in the championship standings. Antonio Cairoli was runner-up behind Herlings and was also the only rider to match Jeffrey’s speed. The Sicilian did not take any unnecessary risks and increased his lead in the championship to 99 points. The final step of the podium belonged to Glenn Coldenhoff. Gautier Paulin and Max Nagl also rode strong in the treacherous conditions to finish in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Jorge Prado celebrated his second MX2 win of the season. The Spaniard finished second in the first race and returned to win the second moto. A promising second place finish was acquired by red plate holder Pauls Jonass, who won race one and made a fantastic comeback in the second, which saw him charge from last position on the opening lap to cross the finish line in fifth. Julien Lieber remained consistent throughout the day to finish in third. To complete an awesome day for Pirelli in the MX2 class, fourth place went to Jeremy Seewer, who remains second in the championship, while Thomas Kjer Olsen rounded out the top five.

Pirelli also celebrated a victory in the sixth round of the EMX125 European Championship thanks to Mikkel Haarup. The Danish rider is second in the standings, just eight points behind with two races remaining.

The 15th round of the season will take place next weekend with the Grand Prix of Switzerland, which is hosted by the Frauenfeld circuit near Zurich.
