Pirelli Riders Power Through the Mud at MXGP of Indonesia

Excellent Results for Pirelli at the Second Round of the FIM Motocross World Championship at Pangkal Pinang for the Grand Prix of Indonesia

Glenn Coldenhoff Takes the MXGP Class Runner-Up Position to Excel in the Indonesian Mud-Fest, While Pirelli Sweeps the Podium in the MX2 Class Won by Jeremy Seewer. Antonio Cairoli Maintains Championship Lead in MXGP and Julien Lieber Jumps to the Top in MX2

PANGKAL PINANG, Indonesia (March 6, 2017) – The Second round of the FIM Motocross World Championship held the Grand Prix of Indonesia, which was severely affected by bad weather throughout the weekend. The heavy rains that hit the Pingkal Pinang area led to the cancellation of timed practices and qualifying races on Saturday, and the second MXGP race on Sunday. Pirelli riders experienced good performances in the deep mud that formed around the circuit, primarily using the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid-Soft front and rear tires.

In the MXGP Class, Glenn Coldenhoff claimed the runner up of position in the single moto format, which was cut short due to excessive rain, while Antonio Cairoli used consistency to cross the checkered flag in fourth. The Eight-Time Champion rode strong on a very challenging track and remains in control of the championship standings. Kevin Strijbos narrowly missed out on the top five, finishing sixth, while reigning MXGP World Champion Tim Gajser battled through the difficult conditions for seventh and holds third place in the championship.

Pirelli dominated the MX2 class by placing three riders at the front of the field to sweep the podium. Jeremy Seewer rode brilliant to earn his first career GP win, just ahead of Samuele Bernardini in second. Bernardini won the second race that was ended prematurely with a red flag due to the worsening conditions of mother nature. Privateer Julien Lieber was third overall in front of Thomas Kjer Olsen and took over the top spot in the championship standings.

Adding to Pirelli’s already successful weekend, the GP served as the opening round of the WMX Women’s Motocross World Championship that witnessed New Zealand’s Courtney Duncan capture the overall victory using SCOPRION™ MX tires.

Following the first two rounds in Qatar and Indonesia, the championship will take a break before returning to action in two weeks for the third round of the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship at the Bariloche circuit in Argentina.
