MALAGROTTA, Italy (February 6, 2016) – Seven days after the start of the season in Riola Sardo, the second round of "International ‘d Italia of Motocross 2017" was held in Malagrotta. Located near Rome, the circuit featured medium-hard soil and all Pirelli equipped riders used the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear. The tires claimed victories in the MX1 and MX2 classes, which also consisted of a brilliant show with the top riders of the MXGP World Championship in the Elite class.
In the MX1 class, Antonio Cairoli led the field to the checkered flag for the second round in a row. The Sicilian scored the fastest time in qualifying practice and later took the lead in the first lap of the race and kept it, maintaining a good advantage over his competition until the finish line. Jeremy Van Horebeek rode fast and consistent in these first seasonal races to finish in the runner-up position. To complete an excellent day for Pirelli in MX1 was the third place of Tim Gajser, followed by Romain Febvre and Evgeny Bobryshev in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Pirelli also scored great results in the MX2 class thanks to Jorge Prado with a third place. The Spaniard leads the standings with only one race remaining at the end of the championship.
A spectacular race took place in the Elite class, which witnessed another victory by Antonio Cairoli, followed by Jeremy Van Horebeek in second and Romain Febvre third. Glenn Coldenhoff and Tim Gajser rounded out a top five Pirelli branded sweep.
At Hawkstone Park, England, on the same day of Malagrotta, another international race was held and the MX1 victory belonged to Max Nagl, with teammate Max Anstie also showing excellent performances. In the MX2 class, Pauls Jonass cruised to victory. The three riders used the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and SCORPION™ MX Soft rear.
Next weekend the final round of “International d’ Italia of Motocross 2017” will be held in Ottobiano, a sandy track in the province of Pavia.
