On Sunday August 20th will it be fresh faced young Sir Lancelot or the battle hardened old King Arthur holding aloft the gleaming broadsword as King of Walton, symbolic of Canadian motocross supremacy? With only a few points lead, the least hesitation by MX1 rookie Dusty Klatt, at any point in the final two motos of the MX1 national series will leaving him watching five time champ Jean Sebastian Roy raise the sword as thousands of followers bear witness.
Honda presents the Walton TransCan in Walton Ontario just one hour north of London (or one hour west of Kitchener -Waterloo). This is the battle scene all weekend - August 18-20.
The Battlefield East West MX2 Pro Shootout is a one time head to head winner-takes-all showdown between the best MX2 pro motocrossers in Canada. In order to contend for this title they must first qualify in either the four race race MX2 West title series or the four race MX2 East title series to gain a berth in the Battlefield Shootout at the Walton TransCan.
In the glare of full national television coverage MX2 heroes will test their ability to measure up against their cross country rivals in this unique match up. Like a sudden death playoff the riders and their teams are going for all the marbles, there is no more season, there is no 'riding for the series championship' . Jimmy Nelson vs Kyle Chisholm, Teddy Maier and Gray Davenport vs Michael Willard and Matt Barnes. Spectators, media and motor-sports fans are in for no-holds-barred competition between the best of the best. But at the end of the day, only the one on the top step of the podium will get the Battlefield cheque for $1,000.
The IMX East/West Amateur Shootout for the IMX Canada Cup is one of the most exciting recent additions to the Walton Transcan and is a Sunday showcase for amateur competitors. It compliments the Battlefield MX2 Pro East/West Shootout and adds a crowning touch to the week of amateur competition.
There are two teams, an East Team of riders with residence in Ontario, Quebec or the Atlantic Region and a West team with riders with residence in Manitoba and all regions west of that including the North. Each team member wears a bib in team colours while racing. Two motos run. a Youth moto and an Amateur moto. The Youth moto includes riders under 16 years of age. The Amateur moto consists of riders drawn from the remaining 12 amateur classes. Points are assigned to teams rather than riders so that the winner of an individual moto will be the team with most accumulated points. The overall IMX Canada Cup winner will be determined by the aggregate score of the teams in the two motos.
