Youthstream, FIM and Brand Teams Meet in Lommel

LOMMEL (BELGIUM), 31 July 2010 – A meeting was held on Friday afternoon in Lommel on the occasion of the FIM Motocross GP of Limburg, with the participation of the brand team managers; Michele Rinaldi - Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross, François Lemariey - Kawasaki Racing, Stefan Everts – Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Lorenzo Resta - Honda Racing MX, Davide Borghesi - Aprilia Racing, Patrick Heydens - TM Racing Factory, Sylvain Geboers – Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1, Roger Harvey - Honda Europe, Steve Guttridge – Kawasaki Motors Europe, Paul Rowney - Suzuki Europe, Winfried Kerschhaggl - KTM, YS President Giuseppe Luongo and FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb. Among the issues that have been discussed were the 2011 MX1/2 calendar and the location of the events.

In a very constructive atmosphere everybody welcomed and supported the idea of the further globalization of the FIM Motocross World Championship as the leading and most important off-road Championship in the world. Selected venues, combined with a high profile and spectator friendly organization will be the 15 stops on the world tour. The schedule for 2011 will feature two overseas events (USA and Brazil), in 2012 there will be three and in 2013 there will be four overseas events. Additional overseas countries will be Japan and Australia, and the FIM Motocross World Championship will start and finish in Europe. The traditional FIM Motocross of Nations will always be staged after the last event of the World Championship.

Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, President of Youthstream, said: “It is absolutely fantastic for the future of our sport having all the major players around the table together; FIM, Youthstream and the team managers, and in such a positive atmosphere. Everyone is delighted with the improvements that are being made and about building together a strong future for Motocross.”

“The meeting was very important for the future and smooth growing of the FIM Motocross World Championship. I am happy that the major partners – teams, Youthstream and FIM – agreed unanimously on the globalization of the Championship, which will of course happen step by step. I am very excited about this project,” said FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb.
