First off, the 2013 KX450F is not short on power. It has a very strong motor that pulls hard, with good power throughout the revs. Thanks to the electronic mapping coupler system of the new Kawasaki big-bore, there is a lot of room for adjustability in the power output of the bike. However, there is always room for improvement, and that is where Yoshimura comes into play.

One of Yoshimura’s newer exhaust offerings is the RS-4 Titanium/Carbon Full System. With a full carbon tip and can that tapers into a titanium base and header, the RS-4 is a piece of motocross art. Add in the anodized billet aluminum mounting bracket and you have one of the best looking pipes on the market. But the RS-4 isn’t just for looks.

On the track the Yoshimura pipe has three distinct advantages over the stock unit: sound, weight, and performance. For one reason or another, the stock KX450F pipe almost sounds as if the packing is blown out from the get go. The RS-4 has a much tighter and crisp note that will not blow out your ear drums.

Carbon fiber and titanium versus aluminum and steel: which combination do you think would be lighter? On top of the weight savings, which even on a 450, can make a surprising difference, the power gains are where the Yoshimura really shines.

From cracking the throttle open on the bottom end, all the way through to the upper ranges, the RS-4 simply broadens the accessible power. A strong yet manageable bottom end carries through to a beefy mid-range and progresses to top-end power that does not flatten out.
