Clear coat gives that over restored plasticky look. Use single stage urethane.

Same cdi relocation on the 250 for 98, airbox still fits all years though. Only issue would be using a 94-97 box on a 98, you need to cut that notch for the grommet.

Any abrasive on steel spokes you probably removed the zinc coating. So they will just rust now. Replace with stainless if its a rider.

For the forks Id get custom springs made, the springs you refer to are over 3" shorter, you will have compression issues. In my experience the carb holders have some sort of coating on them that cracks, not the actual rubber. Look inside for cracks. ... more »

97 was the first year with the thicker swingarm, the brake carrier, chain guide and I believe the linkage are different. Yes, you can use 97 to 02 but you need all those other parts too.

The active ingredient in aluminum brightener is muriatic acid. Some alu parts (cast usually) darken and need to be cleaned with wd and a scotchbrite pad. The best for me was to hand clean with greased lightning then soda blast outdoors. You cant get ... more »

Google DIY soda blaster, the one with the air nozzle inside a clear tube. Works great on degreased aluminum, do it outside. A length of rope and polishing compound works good inside cooling fins.
