Pirelli Continues Winning Ways at MXGP of France Held in Saint Jean D’Angely
Tim Gajser Dominates the MXGP Class and Closes in on Antonio Cairoli’s Red Plate. Jorge Prado Wins MX2 to Extend his Championship Lead
SAINT JEAN D’ANGELY, France (May 27, 2019) - The third consecutive race in three weeks for the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship took place at Saint Jean d’Angely for the Grand Prix of France and round seven of the series. To better tackle the hard and rutted soil, Pirelli-equipped riders were able to rely on the excellent performance of the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft range in various sizes - front and rear - which allowed the Italian company to take overall victory in both classes and in the EMX250 race. In the MXGP class, Tim Gajser again won both races. The Slovenian proved to be fastest on track since the first practice session and dominated throughout the weekend. Thanks to the haul of points earned, he sits just 10 away from championship leader Antonio Cairoli, who was hit by bad luck and only finished seventh at the end of the day. There was a great third place for Romain Febvre who has made a full recovery from the ankle injury picked up at the first meeting of the year. Jeremy Seewer also rode well and repeated his fifth place overall obtained last weekend in Portugal.
There was a sixth win for Jorge Prado in MX2 who proved to be the man to beat in the MX2 class in Saint Jean d’Angely. Thomas Kjer Olsen finished in third place but lost another 11 points in the championship to the Spaniard Prado. Good performances were also recorded by Mitchell Evans and Adam Sterry who finished fourth and fifth overall, respectively.
Pirelli confirmed the performance of their tires with overall victory in the third round of the EMX250 European Championship thanks to Stephen Rubini and third place by Benistant Thibault. Rubini, despite an ankle problem, is second in the championship standings and has shown that he has what it takes to aim for the title. After three consecutive races the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship will take a break next weekend and resume June 8-9 with the Grand Prix of Russia: hosted by the Orlyonok circuit.
