I use a round 5/32 chainsaw file, at a depth of about 3mm into the slide. You don’t have to be nearly as accurate with the cut on the front side of the slide as you do on the back.

Good idea. I like to also modify the front side of the slide as well, it’s not absolutely necessary, but it does help out the pilot circuit, but it may require that you use a 30 pilot.

I would start off with a 42-74 in clip #2, 32.5 pilot and 490 main. This is to be used with the S-4 and #5 slide. This is assuming you have already replaced the jet block gasket.

That bike, I believe came from the factory with an S-7 needle jet. If it's still in there, you more than likely won't be able to clean up the overly rich lowend with a pilot jet or slide. Like mentioned above, I would also take a look at the jet block ... more »

A 5.5 slide, IMO, is going to be a little lean to be used in the small bore 125/150 bikes. Any CRF rear master cylinder from 02-20 will work/ bolt onto your frame. The only difference that I have seen, is the piece that connects the master cylinder to the brake pedal, which can be easily changed out. The master cylinders themselves are all ... more »

Yes, especially with the notched front side of the slide. I ran a 22.5 In a 300 XC in high DA air. This is for an XC or XC-w 300. I haven’t tested with a converted 250 sx to 300, yet.

I think you're pretty close jetting wise, but trying to over compensate on the lean side of things to try and correct the rich slide. Once you cut the slide to a 5.5, I don't think you'll need to run the clip in #1, probably #2 or 3 for this time of ... more »

it sounds like you're into the pilot circuit and or needle starting diameter and possibly the clip height. The first thing I would do is richen up the pilot to 48 or 50. The air screw may also need to be turned in as well.

We need to know in what part of the throttle range (0--25% 25%--75%, 60%--100%) the bog is happening in, so that we can help identify which part of the carb needs to be adjusted, pilot, needle, main....

I've never been a fan of running AV fuel over specific non o2 race fuel. I've always found that the AV fuel burns dirtier than pump or race fuel in a 2t bike, unless using a low flash point 2t oil. Don't get me wrong, it works well enough but, it's dirty. ... more »

That the correct carb for your bike. JD sells a kit for small bore bikes,125/150 and one for 250/300 bikes. The kit for the larger cc bikes will not work in your 125.

Did you try the needle and specs that I suggested, CCL needle, 48 pilot and 178 main ? They should work with the 6.5 slide best. What JD jetting kit did you get for your bike ? The small bore JD kit should have needles that have scribe lines under the ... more »

Think of the notch as an enhancement to the pilot jet circuit and air screw. The notch typically effects under the needles 30%--75% range. There may be a little crossover, but it's not much. The small diameter needle works OK, but it will run a little ... more »

Great to hear feed back. By creating or opening up the notch on the front side of the slide , it causes the pilot circuit to function a little more efficiently, which in turn makes the first 30% or so of the throttle range a little richer. This is where ... more »

I don't have any experience on unplugging the TPS on an RM, but I have left it unplugged on Honda cr125's and 250's, and also on Yamaha YZ250's with great results. 99% of the people with those bike would have know idea that the TPS and power jet were not plugged in when the jetting is setup correctly. As and added bonus, the bikes are easier to jet without the plug in's.

With those temps and elevation, you're probably looking at a correction factor of .93 or so. With that said, I don't have much experience with jetting for elevation. A .93 factor would put you at Needle, 42-74 in clip #2, Pilot at 32.5 with the air screw ... more »
