Wow, what a weekend in Hangtown to launch the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF. (How did we do on our podium pitch? And we didn't even need a pit board.)

First off, there was the drama between Ryan Villopoto and Jason Lawrence on Saturday during what should have been a pretty quiet practice day. You can check out the link above for more on that. Then factor in Ben Townley’s first U.S. National win, and that he beat his teammate (and current U.S. National Champion), Ryan Villopoto, in the second moto of the Lites class to earn it. And finally, add in Ricky Carmichael returning to action for this race (and the next four in a row), and combine it with a crash by James Stewart that dropped him to an uncharacteristic fourth in moto two. That gave RC the win, and provided some great new storylines to start the season.
