Results Sheet: Steel City 1

Ryan Villopoto (Monster Energy Kawasaki) grabbed the early lead in moto one of the 450 class, but Justin Barcia (American Honda Racing) briefly took over the point after moving by at the exit of the first turn. But Ryan Dungey (Rockstar Makita Suzuki) worked his way into the lead by the end of lap one, with Villopoto on his tail. They stayed in close contact throughout the rest of the moto, and as it neared the end, it was obvious that Villopoto was intent on trying to nail a moto win, and help pad his lead in the championship chase before heading to the final round at Pala. In the last turn, Villopoto charged to the outside, railed around a surprised Dungey, and shocked everyone with a last-second pass.

In moto two, it was a Villopoto runaway, and he now has a 14-point lead over Dungey, who is the only remaining title threat.

In the 450 class, all eyes were on Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey.

In the 250 class, Dean Wilson came into the day with 38-point lead, he was fastest during morning practice, and fastest in both motos (with a 1-1 day). After his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate, Tyla Rattray, went 4-4 on the day, Dean also proved fastest for the season, securing enough points to lock up the 2011 250cc title before the final round.

Eli Tomac (GEICO Honda) found a way to charge through the blazing heat (which is normally his downfall), was second in both motos. Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin has been building confidence over the last few rounds following an injury-plagued start to his 2011 campaign, and the MX2 World Champ turned in a pair of third-place finishes to grab third overall.

Eli Tomac was second overall.

Marvin Musquin is looking better at each round, and scored a pair of thirds this week.

Dean Wilson scored his first title in his sophomore season.

After a crushing blow to her championship hopes with a moto one DNF at Southwick, Jessica Patterson's only shot at the WMX title was to win all four of the remaining motos at Steel City and Pala, and hope for some help. She did her part in Steel City, putting her DNA Shred Stix / Star Racing / Yamaha out front in each of the motos, while the series points leader, Ashley Fiolek (American Honda Racing) went 3-2 for second overall. Ashley was also beat out in moto one by Tarah Gieger (Troy Lee Designs / Lucas Oil / Honda), but she still has a substantial 22-point lead heading into a the final round.

Ashley Fiolek continued her holeshot mastery at Steel City, but settled for second overall.
