The frame has been acid dipped and sandblasted. It is at the painter now. I ordered a new clutch, reed valves, fork boots and a Specbolt 250 piece vintage Cr bolt kit.

I got the frame back and I think our estimate of the color matched the fender well.

This was the best bike i ever owned, period.
It had a pro circuit pipe and porting / head squish modified, forks and shock had heavier springs, forks had extra holes drilled and shock had something done??
All this was done by Gary Ben the Team Honda guru.
This was a fucking beast, after a season it had a 1mm gough down the bore where a wieseco ring pin came out, and I still started first 5 into the first corner every race.
It did everything right.

Make sure you try to get oem piston and rings.

When cleaning up the front forks do people sand them to a nice finish and paint them or just sand them? Of course just the outer case part. I am at the beach now and going to the Masters this weekend so progress is slow this week.

That is cool! Whoever did them did a nice job. Maybe I should paint mine silencer after I paint them. I wonder how they were down originally.

Go with the UFO plastics. They do everything apart from the side panels. (87 rad scoops are the same as the 86) The UFO plastics are actually a better colour match than the OEM ones you can get! (Yes, really) The mix must have been changed slightly over time and the OEM fenders are a little bit pink. It's quite noticeable when they are next to original "orange" side panels. The UFO stuff is spot on for colour and fits perfectly, it's also cheap!!

Bikes looking good Brian, I agree with Stevie, UFO are the go, I ordered OEM fenders from Honda a couple of years back for my 85 125 with the correct part number but the shade was way off, I was so disappointed with them I sold them off & got UFO, happy nowSmile

Thanks Smed, I ordered the UFO fenders and they look great. Now I need to sand the gas tank and polish it up.

The best mod I did to my 86' CR125 was finding a set of 87' CR 250 forks. This was back in 88' when I was still racing 125's. I found the forks in Cycle News and they came with Mugen cartridge internals which were an upgrade over the standard Honda cartridges. To this day I have never felt a plusher set of forks in square edge, small ripples, rocks, roots etc.

I had a pair of 1990 or 1991 CR125R shocks but people told me the 1986 shocks were better. Of course they were not CR250 shocks. Seeing that I weigh 210 maybe I should get some 250 forks and a 250 rear spring. Would both work with the 125 frame?

My guess is this should be straight.

Correct, I see a few of them like that, From memory the bushes/bearings in the frame end are no longer available, I made up a custom arm for mine using tie rod ends from the local bearing shop, I had to machine an insert for the hub end

CRF2eR on Thumoertalk hooked me up with a water pump separator. I have been working on cleaning up the swingarm.
