ive just finished up a build I thought id share, I got a call from a pal of mine, saying he had bought a bike, and was having problems putting it back together, so like a fool, I said put it in a box and ill collect and finish, well when I got there, I didn't have the heart to say its scrap, ie to much work to make it worth doing and he isn't the richest of lads money wise, works long hours for little pay and 2 young kids but he is a keen mx guy, he put a jar of coffee in for the long hours I was goin to put in, we chatted and he had little to no budget so I had to save and clean up as much as possible, I started with the engine
so here goes
he couldn't put the cases back together, as he had snapped a shift fork trying, found one new from a friend for next to nothing
the centre gasket what he tried to fit was tore up and broke
so I started with the cases, they were ruff ie thick oil everywhere, loose paint, etc
so here goes
he couldn't put the cases back together, as he had snapped a shift fork trying, found one new from a friend for next to nothing
the centre gasket what he tried to fit was tore up and broke
so I started with the cases, they were ruff ie thick oil everywhere, loose paint, etc
put in new bearings right throu, as the originals were toast
cylinder clean
he bought a wosener piston,
I have a small ultra sonic, so I did the gearbox,
and put the bottom end together
messured
and put back together
so tank first, the fuel tap was missing the oring and they had used silicone sealer which had melted
flatten of the tank after cleaning it up and stripping the paint off, wet and dry in different grades then buffed, it come out ok but not fantastic
the airfilter fell apart, and the air box was ruff
the wiring had so brown tape holding bare wires
a little soldering and they look better
the front pipe was beaten to death, I used the blow out kit to get as many dints as possible but he said he will change in the futre, not much I could do with it
he sent 2 rear pipes, the bills one being the cleanest
a little polish
The Shop
looks cleaner now
next the brakes, the rubbers had all perished, and missing
blasted them up with fine glass, put new seals and rubbers
rear brake was as bad as the front
there was a snapped bolt in the triples, so drilled and used a easy out to remove
glass beaded them and new bearings and seals/races
swing arm bearings fell out and collars missing
new bearings
swing arm cleaned,
had to heat it up to get them out
ready to fit
the shock was suppose to of just had a service before he bought it, leaking seal head
stripped, and ultrasonic cleaned
new shock seal head, fresh motul oil, and some nitrogen, and it feels lush
new seals, bushings and oil, ready to fit
for some reason he didn't put the carb in with the engine, so he sent it with more coffee and some lemon drizzle cake
first thing I found was a bent needle
stripped and cleaned, pilot was blocked and float height was way out, all set to stock
put engine back in the frame
spring coated fresh blue and shock fitted with swing arm
gave him a old set of renthals I had on the shelf, and a set of grips the ones it come with bend on there there that weak
front sprocket was new, no wear so I blasted it over, and fitted
and removed the old decals from the front and rear fender
then I took the tyres of, and the rims were toast along with the spokes
so cut out the spokes
got 2 used rims and sent them off and had them anodised, I blasted the hubs while
cleaned the disks up
put in a new no toil air filter,
put on new chain and rear sprocket as they were toast,
found a used gear lever on my shelf, his old stock one was sloppy, its clean and will get him going
and 2 seat covers
put gear oil in, fuel and it started second kick, sounds real crisp
and last one of it loading to make its way home,
when I deliverd it, he was super shocked and mega happy, its now his pride and joy and hope he has many good times to come,
