I've wanted one of these since I was 16,I loved the look of the Factory Yamaha bikes so 13 years later I bought a semi tired 2006 from a buddy and started the tear down/rebuild of what in my head would be a Factory YZ125(if there were no 4strokes at the time)- here are some before and during pictures-

Brian_Bowles- a few different cleaning products and a lot of sanding

Rickyisms- lol the picutres of the bike with graphics on it are the before pictures. thoses logos are long gone

I used Meguiar's aluminum/chrome cleaner this time around. I have used Eagle One products in the past but its pretty gnarly on Metal. I also wash the parts in the parts washer and and I sanded with a fine sanding block, red scotch brite, and brillo pads on the final wash

Haven't gotten much farther. Been waiting on parts to come in GYTR clutch cover, boyesen ignition cover, airbox, cables, Hammerhead brake pedal, and I'll be sending my brake calipers and such to get coated by Trick Eng

anyone know if the 2019 yz450 front fender will bolt up to my 2007 triple clamps without modifying it? I like the look of the new 450 fender versus the current 2 stroke front fender

you'll have to re-drill the holes just like when you buy a restyle kit for the older bikes

On the ‘15 and up, it bolts right up. Anything before that, as said above, you have to drill holes I believe.

I didn't split the cases because the bottom end only has about 5 hours on it. All I used on the cases was steel wool, head and cylinder came off

Few more parts have come in, replaced linkage/swing arm bearings just have a little bit more cleaning on the rear of the swingarm and that can be bolted on. This is my second two stroke/recycle build and man I love the whole process of turning old bikes into better than new looking bikes

Here are some pictures of my RM250 I built (with lots of help from my boys at KB5) back in 2013/2014 this was a 2006 Carmichael edition. Took me a while to build as I was recovering from a back/leg injury for around 2 years

Lowell I remember you racing the RM a few years back at Sleepy Hollow for the 2 stroke race. For those that don’t know, LS427 absolutely hauls the mail. He led Justin Cooper (yes that Justin Cooper), Cody Gragg, and a slew of other rediculously fast guys for several laps. The bike I built but was injured at the time of the race, was ridden by a local kid I know. “824” KX250, couldn’t keep it together and had nothing but issues all weekend.

What did you used to remove the casting lines on the linkage and rocker arm? As far as the 18 fender, a lower clamp from a 15+ YZ 2 stroke will allow you to mount the newer fender without drilling.

haha man that young buck wore me out, that was after my injury trying to get back into shape to race nationals the following year. It didn't last long as I got hurt real bad again that winter and I haven't touched a bike since


I believe it's called a die grinder with this little rough bad on the end, be careful you don't want to go crazy on it. I sand it to get it back to the brushed look, I don't really like the look of polish and polish doesn't last very long IMO but then you could polish it to get it to really shine

will the 15+ lower clamp slide right in without having to change anything? I have a set of old KYB works forks on a 2008 kawi 450 I want to see if they will work on this thing also

Yes should fit no issue. They changed the part number in 15 as they changed the color of the clamp and fender fitment. All KYB Yamaha forks are 48mm at the bottom clamp. What I did with my current YZ was take a set of 2016 YZ450 clamps, had the top center bored to fit my 2 stroke forks and pressed in my 2 stroke steering stem. Still the same 25MM offset but I got the newer front fender mounts and rubber mounts from the 4 strokes on my 2 stroke now for fairly cheap

Did you sand the factory ano off? I’ve used lye to strip factory anodized swingarms before.
