i can get a oem cr250 crankshaft from the uk for £368 and in the usa the exact same one is £168. I know that i will pay shipping and import fees but dont understand the massive price difference from the uk to the usa for exactly the same thing

Been there. Seen it. Done it. American price doesn't have sales tax included. Then you have postage, duty and tax to pay on both the item and postage. Plus the dollar is strong at the moment against the pound, 1.6 $ to the £ is about right rather than the current 1.3-1.4.

Vs importing from Japan. America and Japan have a trade agreement where vehicle parts are imported in to the USA with little or no duty applied. The UK has import them according to the rates set by the trade agreement negotiated by Brussels. If you go back to the source in Japan both the UK and US importers will pay the same price for parts from the factory.

My advice is make a big list of bits you want and negotiate with a parts supplier. When you're wanting to order £1000+ of parts, or order bits they've had for a while, they'll knock money off. And if you're worried about the prices of parts then sell your bike as it's only going to get worse.

What's your point? My own guide is I roughly expect to pay in £ the price shown in $. So I would be expecting to pay £410 with duty paid etc.....

Is 20% of the sale price... We are taxed on what we earn, taxed on what we spend, pay council tax just because we happen to be alive and live in a house... we pay road tax and if you need to buy fuel for your vehicle the tax on that is an insane amount... if I sat and worked it all out I might cry...

Honda europe is the problem. A cr250 latest one 05-07 crank cost in NL 750 euro. In the usa i can buy and with import fees and shipment i have it for 340euro.

There is a guy in Holland that imports cranks from the usa.. i bought one from him for 315 euro 05-07 crank..

You can contact him if you want.. the crank will be around 330 euro with shipment to the uk.
