My guess is it’s a 99 based off the back fender decal if that’s a original rear fender. Either way the bikes were only made from 98-00 and I’m almost certain nothing changed with them between those years so buying parts for it for any of those years should have you covered. Do you have any more parts for it or is that it what you have pictured.

98-99 the header pipe was moved up in '00 to ease oil change. Thumper Talk has reams on info in the 400-450 section. I still own my '99 YZ400F great bikes and am doing the '03-'05 body conversion to it with better suspension. Open her up do piston rings rod kit and timing chain. Have the head done and you are good to go for decades with regular servicing. Reliable as an axe they were if maintained.

look slike 99 because of the white letter on the rear fender. I think 98 and 99 had very few changes. I think wheelbase was shortened.

I believe I have the original OEM muffler assembly which you will need to correctly restore .

Hi , I believe my stock OEM muffler assembly was a 99 or 2000. it was removed when bike was nearly new so original paint and near perfect . I added an FMF muffler . nearly certain the WR400 was identical until it became a 450 YZ/WR . so it is the correct muffler for your bike . are you interested in this muffler ??? if so , i can confirm year , remove it from box and photo it for you .
thanks , Craig b

Hmmm... From 1980 on , my thoughts were that every vehicle was required to have a 17 digit VIN # ?????
Certainly from your photo , your vin is correct .
