Hey, doing some stuff to my 450, whats the best way to paint the frame? i know the best way is to powder coat it, but im in school well in excess of full time and not working much due to the shutdown. any advise would be appreciated, thanks
Then clean everything. Any number of solvents you could use...acetone or denatured alcohol are cheap. Use a microfiber cloth because it wont leave particles behind like paper towels or cotton. Spot primer the bare spots and then you can paint.
Be patient and try to do several light coats. A dozen "misting" coats will resist chipping better than 3 heavy coats. When you paint, hit the hard to reach areas first. Thats about it. Make sure to wait for a nice day too. Low humidity and 60 degrees and sunny.
The Shop
I paid $100 to blast and powder coat my frame black on my project bike. I told them i wasn't overly picky on the black, just gloss and asked what is their normal black they do batch runs of for people. They showed me the color and i was good with it so they just put my frame in the next batch getting black.
For $100, i could not have done a better job. They masked off all bearing surfaces, threaded holes, etc. Killer job for the ridiculously cheap price.
