Hi,
I am about ready to buy a 2008 CRF450 tomorrow, how close is it to the current 450's?

I think it's power is still on par, but not sure if it'll keep up with the KX450F or KTM 450sx ?

Handling should be about the same with fresh suspension?

Thanks,
Joe

Best Honda 450 made to date IMHO. Still good to go against the current crop of 450's.

I'd say about 95% of people can go just as fast on an 08 as a brand new 14....buy that thing and ride the crap out of it!

loved my 08. Only complaint I had was it went thru brake pads like crazy and the airfilter was a bitch to get in and out.

I still have one covered up in my garage loft for about 3 years, broke my collarbone and never rode it much after that.

I should pull it down and go through it and turn it into a 2014 replica.

THe handling and power on that bike was great, I'd bet a good national pro could still get a top 15 finish on one today.

Def a great bike, power, handling etc.I think where the newer bikes seem.better are they are slimmer, better egos.IMHO but that bike is good to go. I think 2 years ago at steel city, Chris blose qualified on his 08.

Still have mine too, love the thing! I still have a soft spot for the 2-strokes (CR250), but after having a left ankle fusion, I can't quite shift the same as before…so I grab this one, put it in 3rd and pretty much leave it there. Strong, reliable motor, great handling, brakes and clutch are on point…
I haven't tried out a '13 or '14 Honda yet, but I don't think I would trade the '08 for the '09-'12 version CRF. Great bike!

I still ride my 08'.....and i still really like it a lot. The only complaint I have ever had with that bike is that I've never been able to get the suspension working right for me. The newer 12' and 13' bikes just have better suspension plain and simple. BUT....as far as the way the bike feels ( especially in the air ).....is amazing. Very agile bike but kind of picky on line choice. You have to pick and choose your lines carefully as the rear end doesn't always follow. Something like a KXF450.....it doesn't give a shit where it goes.....i makes it;'s own lines! But a lot of these newer 450's feel " Bigger ".......in longer motos they may wear you out more? Not really sure on that as I haven't been able to put in some long motos.

The 08'......what can I say....it's the best bike I've ever owned. I just wish I could some how slap the suspension I had on my 2010 YZF450 on it.....the thing would feel like a factory bike!

I had a ,07 crf 450, great bike, rode 08 crf 450 s, great bike. Had a 09 rmz set up, and have a 12 crf 450, 12 kawy 450, 13 rmz 450 and as good s the 07/08 crf is the bikes I listed are better bikes, IMO. But bike set up is crucial and having efi is pretty nice also.

I think it actually was a 06 or 07. Pretty impressive.

Oh, okay. I do remember it too I just thought that it was an older version since he was running the front number plate that was pre 2008, before Honda equipped the CRF's with the steering damper.
GuyB posted this picture from Steel City that year:

Edit: Or at least it looks like the older version in that picture....

I bought her today, she's in great shape. One owner, had an easy life with low hours.
Came with a Big Gun header and slip-on. Anyone have any feedback on the Big Gun system?

I pass newer 450s all the time with my 06 KX250 so I'm sure you will be fine on an 08 450 Whistling

Mike Young was a former racer who was paralyzed and started Big Gun. I have always had great luck with them.Q uality product. However, that bike has a few hours on it. But don't let that scare ya.
