Try Craigslist.org, but be ready for a big surprise.
125's are in demand, but some you will see are simply insane, especially in the northeast. Good luck!

I’m looking for some punctuation!

x2 for Craigslist though. I’ve also seen a few on OfferUp.

Done be afraid on the mid 2000s Honda’s, they can usually be had cheaper because they’re not exactly benchmark for performance. For a first big bike they will be more than sufficient though and parts are much cheaper compared to say a Kawi or Suzuki, I’d recommend staying away from those for that reason. Realistically though, you’re soooooo much better off paying more up front for a nice bike than buying a turd and trying to get the thing working right, it’s just frustrating and a money pit. 1100 probably won’t get you too far, but if you can save up a bit longer and get to the $2000 range you’d be a lot better off.

ID try some motocross Groups on Facebook and Facebook Market place, ive seen Decent 125's in that Price range or slightly more that may take that as an offer, if you find a Bike that someone is asking a little more for like $1300/$1400 i would recommend to go look at in person and make the offer in person if you want it , rather than making an offer without being there , people are much more likely to accept your offer when you are there in person with Cash in Hand!

This^^^, at that price point its going to be hard to find one that doesn't need serious work. People are asking outrageous prices for well running two strokes, and even more outrageous for "needs work" two strokes. Beware the inevitable "RUNS MINT, NOTHING WRONG EXCEPT (insert exhaustive list of expensive issues here)"

My bike was manufactured the year you were born. Woohoo
There should be tons of bikes for sale in your area- I like the RMs and YZs.

He's from my Son's generation, where most of them have the hand writing skills of Edward Scissorhands...... Punctuation?!?....they probably think that is a new band, or some disease you get eating the wrong food overseas. To the OP, shoot for a TTR 125. Cheap, you can learn the same basic skills needed to maintain a dirtbike, and the cast you earn from riding it will be no better than the one a 2 stroke 125 will get you. Have fun, and remember, it doesn't hurt until the bone shows.....

I had a CR500 when I was 15, and it didn't kill me.

I’ve been flipping 125s the last 2 1/2 months. Made about 5k. Look for RMs...they are dirt cheap. I’ve seen a few 03-06 RM125s ranging from 1200-1500 in the NY area. Check Facebook market

Find some ads then post a link here so we can give you advice. Do you have someone who can help you do repairs and maintenance? Do you have tools? Can you ride on your property or close to your home?

DO NOT get in a hurry and buy one that needs a lot of work, or even a fair bit of work.

You need to make a decision. If you want to work on one, buy the cheapest one you can find. If you want to ride one, buy one that needs no work. YES. It will cost a lot more than $1,100. DO NOT get in a hurry. The money you spend on parts and tools could have gone to buying a better bike to start with.

You either find rip offs or scam artists in the used bike market here in Los Angeles https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/mcy/d/venice-2018-yz125/6834482725.html

What's the scam down there?

You show up and they rob you of your $1500 cash?

I’m looking into the legitimacy but upon initial review it doesn’t pass the smell test. I texted him if he has more pictures available. The ad was just posted today.
