"Would you buy a bike that was lighter, cheaper, easier to maintain, snappier, better handling, quicker stopping and made more horsepower per cc than any four-stroke? Well, would you?"

http://motocrossactionmag.com/Main/News/MXAS-2013-KTM-250SX-TWOSTROKE-MOTOCROSS-TEST-BEST-9333.aspx

you can explode out of corners with an instantaneous snap that makes a four-stroke feel like a school bus

Can't believe you're still comparing a 250 2t to a 250 4t.

This is the bike that every manufacturer hates and wishes would just die. The second obviously would be the YZ. I'm sure the Big4 and all of motocross/ supercross management has to be scratching their head saying "What will it take to kill these bikes and shut up the people who buy them?!" Could KTM's 2-strokes be the only thing keeping 2-strokes in the AMA rulebook?

Coming from being a 2 stroke 500 rider since I was 16 to the YZ426 when I was 22, I like my big bore 2 stroke but, they can't and don't compare to a 4 stroke in my opinion.

I rode a few 250 2strokes but never liked the bikes one bit, I just can't get what all the fuss is about

If 2 strokes are what you want to ride that is great ride what you want to ride, but why do all 2 stroke fans feel the need to try and convince everyone all the time.. Prob my most favorite bike was my 1999 KTM 380 SX as light as a 250 with the power of a 500. If KTM produced a 380 again I still very much doubt I would go back, I do love 4 strokes

i can't believe people still think 250 2t vs 450 4t is fair

I don't know...the last year that Suzuki allowed Ricky Carmichael to ride an RM250 he beat a whole mess of 450's and won a Supercross championship.

Digger how does the handling compare to that sweet RM250 u have?
9/19/2012 9:26pm
I rode one at the KTM day at Washougal on Monday and I have to say it was more fun than the 350sx (which was the bike I went there to ride) I couldn't get a good feel for handling because they didn't groom the track from the race the day before and it was hammered. But the power was amazing.

Also curious. I went to KTM ride day and got 10 min on a SX250, power felt incredible but the suspension was absolutely shocking. In fairness the bike was still brand new and obviously not setup for me.

i'm sure he meant the sxf350. They once made a sx380/sx360 though. But you can just buy a official ktm sx300 kit to hop up your sx250. Or try to shoehorn an old sx380 engine in it ;-)

Why would you not compare the two? The 250F's are now spinning at 14,000 rpm in an effort to keep ahead of a 125???Laughing

What? They go that high because they can. The expansion chamber is what stops a 2 stroke from doing the same thing.

Well... The bar was set pretty high because we worked on my RM for quite a while before I feel we got it right & it handled great & the suspension was just amazing. The KTM doesn't have nearly the bottom end power of my RM & then surges into a very nice mid range & now with the FMF combo it revs out as far & maybe a bit further than my RM did so no complaints there cuz it is fast!. I weigh 212 & the KTM is definitely undersprung on both ends for me & so we're swapping out the srpings on both ends today. The KTM handles really nice & has a great track feel & it definitely like it's feels 20lbs lighter than the RM but the suspension is not even in the same ballpark as my RM. I rode the same track 2 days in a row & the bike feels like a world beater UNTIL the track get beat up & choppy & then all the suspension issues come up. The forks are pretty harsh & drop into a very harsh midstroke & it will headshake pretty bad when coming into a rough turn when carrying a lot of speed. The shock feels much better than the forks but is undersprung for my weight which makes the front end problems much worse. Ron Bushey is putting .48 fork springs (.46 is stock) in it today & is lowering the fork oil height as low as the factory specs will allow & intsalling a 5.8 shock spring (5.4 is stock). We are going to set the sag at about 102mm & go testing tomorrow & we'll get it figured out. Hopefully with the new fork springs we can keep the front end up & with the much lowered oil height we can get the forks to move a little more fluidley (is that even a word?) into the mid stroke. I'm going to ride the last 4-5 races here in New England with it the way it is & then more the likely send the stuff out for a revalve.

TSS made the graphics & they are really cool looking. There are FOX heads ghosted throughout the graphics & the really shine like orange metallic in the sun. Pictures just don't do them any justice. We've made a cpl of changes in the graphics & we are putting them on today. I also had them make rim graphics for the new black Excels & hub graphics & we're putting them on today too. I put rim graphics on my RM's yellow Excels & I feel that they looked great & that they help protect the rims from scratches & they lasted almost a whole season before I needed to change them out which was just amazing to me.

Anyone here in New England that knows Digger knows he does the 2 strokes right.
That RM he put together is a screamer and I am sure the Katoom will get dialed in and do the same asap.

Nice bike man......now get your cousin to go out and ride with you.

Did Ricky Carmichael not ride an RM250 in the 2005 Supercross series and win the championship?

It seems like a lot left to be desired in the suspension dept. Do you think it will handle better than the Rm when finished ? If so how much money total invested with purchase and all upgrades will you have into it when dialed? $8,000-$10,000k ? This is what is slowing me down from jumping into a new $7,000 bike that needs a grand + in upgrades just to get it to work right. Are you going to sell that RM?

It's definitely worth the investment & will it be better than my RM was.. well that remains to be seen. It took a yr to get the RM just the way I wanted it. The only issue I have with the KTM is the suspension & once that's resolved it should be a great bike. The fit & finish is so nice & it's way way easier to work on then the RM is. It is a very trick bike that only needs some suspension work. I only paid $6400 for it so it was a no brainer for me. If I bought a new 13 Honda 450 like I was going to it would been 10-11 grand by the time I was done with the suspension, graphics & a pipe.
