So my 2017 is obsolete now, I've only had it 7 months...need to go back to Suzuki with their 10 year cycle

I'm a fan of ktm and have been riding them for years but this is part of the double edged sword of their fast paced innovation. Buy a new bike and a new generation comes out two years later. Not great for resale if you count on that, and it sucks when your new bike isn't new even though it's new from the dealer haha.

Biggest news of the year now breaking. Speculation must begin. What's on your wish list for the new 2018 KTM's?

52MM Cone Valve FORKS PLEASE!

Yes please.

Because who ever set up the stock WP AER forks were high. They are junk in stock form.
I'll surely trade anyone my 2016 4cs for your AER ??

Serious speculation as to what can be done to a "new" model to make it faster:

Air Shock (dropout style)
Auto Clutch or semi auto trans
Left Hand rear Brake
52mm cone valves
Dual injectors with the primary on the bottom
Bigger front brake rotor

So basically more power, better brakes, better suspension. Along with a bigger Price...Bring it Baby!

I'd imagine dual injectors or angled injectors. I hope they come up with something crazy and revolutionary!

My guess is that a new engine design will be the biggest change.

It's crazy to think they could make a production 450 that weighs less and has more power than what they are currently making.

It will be a major downer on the 245+lbs red, yellow green and blue bikes out there if they do....

To be fair, i don't know if i would want any more power in a bike than what i have with my 17 sxf 450. Maybe, just maybe a bit more "grunt" when it comes to throttle response but that is it.

Lighter is always better(as long as the reliability doesn't suffer too much). But i don't know how they are going to make it even lighter.

Still speculating how to make the best better here;

Longer Headpipe
Xtrig ROCS style triple clamps
fatty front tire
Titanium bolt kit
rear holeshot suspension lock down
unlocked mapping
Straighten intake tract

I don't think it'll be the last year though, at least not that I've heard.

There'll be both a FE 450 and 250 for the winter.
Any idea if the wheels and suspension will work off my 2016.5?

You can either throw the accessory catalog at it, or engineer some revolutionary changes.

52MM Cone Valve FORKS PLEASE!
- keep making the bike lighter (while maintaining current durability )
- slimmer shrouds (taller narrower radiators and reshaped gas tank could allow this)
- fix the mid pipe burning the plastic issue
- go back to the pre2015 aggressive front brake
- wouldn't say no to 48mm AER cone valve forks Smile

I would bet the wheels would for sure as they will interchange for several years now with only a wheel spacer change. Forks probably, but shock we will have to see. I have a 2017 and like you hope my cone valves swap over.

I guess you haven't shopped for used KTMs, no other brand comes close to holding resale value like KTM. I have friends that have had to buy another brands brand new bike because it was cheaper than all the used one year old KTMs on CL.
I can't wait to see a picture of the new bikes.

How hard is it keeping these kinds of secrets? I know ML couldn't wait to tell someone and he trusted you. I'm sure the NSA listened in on your conversation and now the secret is sure to be leaked..

What are the chances that the new bike will have something not currently being tested and proven? Not much.

2018 FE is a totally new bike. It has been tested in secret spots in Europe. A couple of weeks ago Ktm US testrider Ryan Morris was in Europe, pretty sure he was there testing new bike ;-)

Ryan Dungey also got to test new bike before deciding to retire. Marvin has also been mentioning in a podcast that he has been riding new -18 FE

Cairoli has been seen with the new frame masked with current plastic.

Just like 2015 FE...testing of new bike is done in secret spots

I'm pretty sure we see some leaking pictures of new frame and motor in a couple of months.

But official release of photos...December -17

Tanel Leok was on a heavily disguised 2019 Husqvarna at one of the GPs but only used in the qualifying.

Different shock reservoir layout I was told. That's what caught the eye of who saw it. Then the harder they looked the more realised it was a prototype.

Very different bike to current models.

I'm still surprised there's no pictures around from Lommel or Dunkirk of the bikes being tested Sad

So there are a lot of people keeping this "secret". All new but no details...

How demoralizing it must be for the competition who are playing catch up, just when they start getting close enough to sniff the exhaust fumes, KTM kicks it into another gear Woohoo
