How much they make including contingency?

What's the MotoGP purse money? Do we agree they risk their lives?
What's the F1 purse money?

They should just shit the purse for the factory guys and start it from the first rider whos not on an official factory or factory supported team. Those guys aren't missing it compared to even the guys like Dean or Malcolm.

You know what, fuck it, I will ask the question I believe I have asked well over 15 year between here, Freshdirt/Motodrive and now Vital...

Please, answer two questions....one takes math, one a guess

1. How much expenses do you believe are involved in running a single SX race? Stadium rental for a week (not 1 night, you have build, press. teardown, ++), portacans, security, fencing, insurance, transportation for all of the AMA Crew, the FELD Crew, plus per diems, plus hotels/food/rentals, plus the multiple 18-wheeler trucks hauling all the gear, plus all the riggers to build it, plus the annual pay to Dirt Wurx and there is a lot more, but just GUESS what you think all that costs?

2. How much profit (including all the risks) is Feld allowed to make? Who wants to cap their earnings?
Keeping in mind, they're a multi-billion dollar company, if it's not worth their efforts, why bother, right?
So how much, is too much?

No one has EVER honestly answered any of these questions

"No one has EVER honestly answered any of these questions"

Nobody but the promoter will know he answers, therefore, it is completely pointless to ask, however, if the promoter only has a paultry $68k left to spare to pay the riders with, they should seriously think about doing something else more lucrative.

PS - You also forgot to ask how much money NBC paid the promoter for the right to televise it etc.

Math
You can research the rental of the stadium for a week...that's how long they have it for one event like this

Far as I know, NBC isn't paying for the rights...not long ago, Feld PAID to have SX televised, now I believe it's offered free

Still, how much is Feld allowed to make on a single event, all things considered?

Actually there were reports that Fox was paying $1 million a year several years ago.
https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2013/05/20/Media/Sup…

On a recent PulpMX show, Adam Stern, a reporter for SportsBusiness Journal, speculated that the new SX on NBC deal would be low 8 figures. Matthes said he felt like that was too high and guesstimated it to be more like $4 million a year.

Ok, $4M over 16 events, right?

$250,000 per event

OK, my bad

So, again, what's the breakdown and what's Feld allowed to make per event?
What's the cap?

Why should riders care how much Feld is supposed to make? Why should Feld Care how much a rider makes from them? A rising tide and whatever happens happens. We get it all here, but best of luck to the jester.

you are once again pointlessly guessing how much the promoter makes, and your question is ludicrous, so you might as well give up.

To add to the questions, how much in sponsorship is created through Feld to help off set costs and increase the bottom line? We will never know of course, and there is a reason that we don't know the answers to the other two questions-it would make that purse look PATHETIC. But they are a for profit company and the do take all of the risk on the business side, but the BIGGER risk is taken by the riders, and without them there is no profit to be made.

Too much gray area for that these days.

This thread should just be questions and posturing followed by a nice meltdown. That's what I'm hoping for.

The fact is, if the riders keep showing up then the purse is either acceptable or irrelevant. Either way, I'm not sure why we, as fans, should worry so much about it.

barnett468,
Yeah, I'm not guessing too much
I know my numbers.

Prove that you know yours

Again, what do you want to cap Feld's earnings at? How much is making too much?

They can give a fan 1 million dollars? Divide the 1 million over 17 races and now the winner's purse is 75k.
The fact the winner purse has not been raised every year when they raise the ticket and racer participation fees?
The racers are leaving millions on the table for the promoter because they will not stick together as one voice.
The talent is controlled like sheep. If the racers fight the promoter they can expect to be canned in favor of the B racers.
McGrath writes about this crap 20 years ago in his book, nothing has changed for a very long time.

The purse seems so inadequate it's almost nothing... almost.

Maybe get rid of the purse. If that's all they've got left to give to riders, might be better spent elsewhere and let the teams pay wages

"barnett468,

lol, i don't have to prove anything because i am not boldly bloviating that i know the promoters true expenses vs their income etc like you seem to be implying you do, which you don't, and that is a FACT.

"Again, what do you want to cap Feld's earnings at? How much is making too much?"

and again, that is a ludicrous question as well as a pointless one, but by all means, please continue with this, as i, and i'm sure some others, find it amusing.

Feld says they had nearly 1million people in attendance last year. What's the average ticket cost? We'll low ball at $20. That's $20million in ticket sales alone. Say $1million in tv deal. What are the riders charged to race? I think it's like $250. We'll low ball at $200 and 80 riders for the day. So $16000 in rider fees every race. Or $272,000 a year just in what the racers pay. What about other industry people? What do they pay? What's the monster deal? 2million? What about merch sales? Do they get a cut of the beer sales? Looks like SX brings in over $24 million before expenses.
Let's be real here, Feld is making money and they could afford to both up and better organize the purse money. Sure they got expenses, but if the money is THAT tight why dont they realize numbers? Or why dont you? You seem to know what they pay.

Any way you look at it , the purse money is a joke. The few fast privateers that actually make the main , don't even break even after entry costs , bike parts , travel expenses , ect..... The real sad part is , these payouts don't look much different from 20 years ago.

Also it looks like the upper end of a renting a stadium is $100K a day including security. We'll just assume that's what feld pays everyday for the entire week they rent it out. Or 700K a race. So just under $12 mill to rent the stadiums and have security all year. That still leaves over $12mill to pay salaries, transport equipment, pay insurance, ect.

Confused why you keep asking what Feld is “allowed” to make? The answer is the same amount as Apple, Amazon, and any other for profit business which is as much as humanly possible. Or did you think they’re capped and any proceeds over a certain dollar figure had to be donated to charity?

The real question is how Feld is able to get away paying the performers $68k when they’re directly responsible for generating millions in revenue via tickets sales, merchandise sales, consessions, Ad, TV, and sponsorship revenue. Yes it’s true they’re also taking all the risk but would be curious if anyone can think of anything analogous.

It’s tantamount to promoting a concert and offering the headliner capable of selling out Angels stadium and broadcast on Network television $12k for the event...

I already knew it was low after seeing earnings after last SX season, but as a fan that doesn’t make this bum me out any less. How many great riders are we missing out on watching year to year as a result of some up, and coming kids, or their families deciding the risk to reward ratio just wasn’t good enough?

I wish I had some solutions I really do, but this hasn’t changed much in the 20 years I’ve been a fan, and I don’t really see it changing in the future either. Like someone else said, as long as it’s every man/team for themselves nothing’s going to change.

The racers have an entry fee also. I think it's $250 per rider. Plus around $600.00 per rider, mechanic, owner and all who purchase credentials for the supercross season. Someone is making money, I just know its not the guys the finish out of the top 5, 6 or so.
