I have been looking for a 125 in Craigslist for a few months and to my surprise all the 125 are 3k+ for 2002+. Whatever happened to affordable 2 strokes???
Anyway, I encountered this guy with a 2017 YZ 125 used but "new" for $8500 that wasn't going to last long. Well, I had to ask him a few questions to see the legitness of this bike and to say the least it is all I have been looking for this whole time. Purple power band and its race ready. Ohhh what a deal I found.

I laughed but, real talk, just buy new and hold onto it for years. Brand new price amortized over say 5 years is SFA per year. And you don't have to deal with classifieds morons.

LOL...that's awesome! You can occasionally find a deal, but it's not easy. You definitely need patience. I've been on a bunch of Facebook groups in my area and I wasn't even looking for a bike, (but I still look), and came across a 2004 YZ125 that needed a front tube and bars. Picked it up for $1300 a few months ago. The plastics are scratched but mechanically it's good. The previous owner recently blew it up. It has a brand new cylinder on it with a new top end. They had receipts from the local Yamaha dealer for proof. At the time, similar bikes were going for $1600-1800 if not more and really rough condition so I thought it was a fair deal and picked it up.

After seeing some recent listings, I wouldn't be surprised if I could get $2k plus for it now

I'm assuming it's a GYTR Purple Powerband, since he mentioned that in the ad? Make sure he provides a dealer receipt for that, wouldn't want to find some knockoff Chinese POS under the cover. AFTER he has your money and you have it at home.

Just because someone is asking a certain price for a bike on craigslist, DOES NOT mean its worth that much, and it doesn't mean they will GET that price either. So dont think your 02 is worth 3500 because someone is asking that on CL

The OP is exactly why I don't put my number on Craigslist. They can email me with a number and then I'll CALL them. None of that texting back and forth for 2 fucking hours. Either you want to buy it or you don't. Also if the first thing you sent me was an offer equal to 30% of my asking price I would've politely told you to EABOD. Granted, the seller's price is ridiculous, but like mentioned above, he owns it and can list it for whatever he wants to. The market will dictate whether it sells or not.
