Honestly I was thinking about one , it maybe fun to own one . But I really dislike the WP suspension. I did not like them on my KTM and I won't like them on the Alta . Just mine opinion.

We bought a MXR last month and love it. I think I have 130+ miles on it. It is extremely addicting to ride.

The suspension is not bad, front forks were a little soft at first. I am still trying to get my suspension dialed.

And the no clutch thing is not that big of a deal for me.

The biggest draw back is the recharge time or time you can ride on a battery, how ever you want to look at it. You kinda need a 2nd bike when you go to the track to ride when you are re charging it.

Hope that helps! I would highly recommend riding one

They seem awesome but the ride time would have to be the biggest negative thing and I'd rather have to fill up with gas then need to charge with generator.

Not allowed here where mountain bikes are, and being "Motorized" might as well have an engine.

Too expensive for what it is.

And a street version is cool, but again, engines are allowed.

My student loan debt from law school Sad

An Alta will be the next bike I buy.

In the short term? Financial reasons aside, it sounds like they're getting really close - but I'd like to see the technology and overall bang for the buck improve a little more before I'd be ready to commit...

In the long term? Nothing. Bring it on. eBikes are the future and I firmly believe they will save the sport. Anyone who thinks otherwise probably also thinks global warming is a bunch of hog wash.

btw.... anyone who hasn't listened to Matthes interview with DC somewhere around hour 2-3 of this weeks PulpMX Show about DC's experience ripping an Alta around High Point and his thoughts on where all this eBike stuff is headed - I highly, highly recommend you give it a listen. Good stuff.

The same thing is stopping me that has kept me from buying any new bike in 12 years: cost. Just can't afford one. I'd be very, very interested in one of those if I was in the market though.

That is a pretty closed minded way of looking at something. The suspension was bad on one bike that you had, from a completely different manufacturer...

Only reason I didn’t buy one when I just got my new 450 is they are not legal in hillclimb yet. I think with some tweaks they would be more than competitive in the 450 class, but until they’re allowed to race my hand was forced. Just the thought of never changing another damn air filter again is enough to have me sold. . .

Range (I can get nearly 70-80 miles out of my 450)
Recharge time on the (I can fill up my tank in a matter of a minute)
Then Price.

I need 70-80 miles of range-with no drop in performance...if they had that much range, I wouldn't care as much about the recharge time...but it still wouldn't work for desert racing when the mileages hit triple digits sometimes.

I have thought about this quite a bit lately. I am hoping to get a new(er) big bike in the next year or two.

On a more practical and economical sense I can get a good condition used YZ 125 for what $2500-3500, a new one for around $5300. I don't want a KTM or Husky, just brand preference.

The Alta is appealing, except the price and the limit on ride time. I am also curious as to how they do in the mud (puddles), will they hold up okay or is pretty much if there is standing water you don't ride.

I thought about one and I had the money to buy one but I didnt see the value in it vs a 2018 TC250- for what I do with it: trails and c class goon/practice day rider. I am sure its fast as hell but it didnt look to have that emotional fun factor like a two stroke does.

The fact that it's an electric bike. I love internal combustion engines.

Cost, need be below 10k
Range, need be at least 1hr.
Weight, need be below 225lbs
Meet that criteria and I will be an ALTA owner.

I'd like the ability to tune it, like I can with a yzf or kxf. I feel like it should be way easier with this bike than any other.
I enjoy the sound of the motor on my bikes
Range
Charge time

The same reason I don't buy an electric car, you have to recharge it vs pouring in some gas. On top of that, with a dirt bike you're not always in the most convenient place to plug something in. What are you going to do, run 2 gallons of gas through your generator to get 40 minutes of riding? It kind of defeats the purpose.

Man, we put WAY more rounds through the boy's M&P 15-22 than we do through the Saint. Ditto the M&P Compact 22 versus the 9mm. .22 is cheap and fun. And after 500 rounds of .223 my head hurts.

My next bike might just be an Alta. I'm sick of oil filters and gas.

Mike
