Looking for Pro’s and Con’s of both. I’ve only worn Tech 10’s since 2004 and really tired of the inside boot and all the maintenance that goes along with it. Want something new.

I’m in the same dilemma. When I’m back on the bike next year, I’m thinking about a change, but I’m leaning towards Jett.

Don’t know much about the Jett’s.

Do any of the Pro’s wear Tech 7’s?

Yes, I remember Jimmy D. wearing them with geico Honda last year, along with many other pros. Also very popular with offroad riders due to the better comfort they allow.

ALPINESTARS TECH 7 ALL THE WAY!
I tried both out this past summer. I even bought a pair of Instincts, took them back to size up, and they were never comfortable. My feet cramped so bad.
Took them back and tried the Tech 7's. They are pillows. I could wear them for hours!
It may just be my girthy feet(size 9), but I LOVE my Tech 7s!

Previous boots were Tech 10s. Now wearing Insticts and they're my new favorites. Less bulky than the Tech 10s, and I was also tired of the hassle of the Tech 10 booty. Instincts felt good straight out of the box.

Can't go wrong with the Tech 7's. I've been wearing them for several years and they are great. Huge color selection and one of the best boot values for the price. Used to wear Tech 10's and don't miss the booty at all...……..

I had both and have recently switched to Fox Instinct and absolutly love it!

Fox Instinct vs. Tech 7
-Fox is slightly heavier and bigger
-ankle is much, much more secure with Fox and there is more material that protects your leg
-Fox has better grip with the bike
-Tech 7 has thinner toe area and it feels more like a shoe (more control/flexible)
-Tech 7 has almost no protection from the back. I had around 5 models and never had problems with that, but a few of my friends broke their legs because of that (they put their leg on the dirt and the footpegs caught their leg/hit it from the behind).

Tech 7 is awesome boot, but it lacks better/more protection and is very affordable. On the other hand, the Instinct is more expensive, but it really is a great boot!

I say the instincts. Much more comfortable and dont require any break in time. The tech 7s are also a great boot to though. I have both but i just prefer the instincts. The sg12 is also a really nice boot but a little stiff. Tech 10s just suck in my opinion. That bootie is ridiculous and they're not true to size at all

Why not Gaerne SGs? I ran instincts for a few rides but they felt tight and less durable, definately a comfortable and light boot though, but having a few SG12s still feel they are the best boot all around for comfort and durability.

My Tech 7s are the most comfortable boot I've ever owned in 27 years of riding. Soles wore out quick but I had them replaced pretty cheaply.

I first had tech 7’s and then swapped over to the instincts. The 7’s were great for 13 hours before a huge chunk got taken out of the soles. When I first got the instincts they cramped my feet so bad. It took me two or three rides to get over it and I fucking love them. Best boot I’ve ever worn. Don’t get me wrong, I still wear my tech 7’s, But if I were to get another pair of alpinestars they’d be tech 10’s. although I’m sure the next pair I buy with be fox instincts

Meh! The Gaerne’s are the same as Tech 8’s. They feel the same anyway.

Maybe in feel but not quality, my Gaerne's have always outlasted the one pair of 8's I had. Aren't AStars made in China like Fox vs. Italy.

Gotcha. I'll say they did hold up better than my instincts did. Only issue was the sole wearing super fast. Everyone's preference will be different. I don't think you can go wrong with Sidis, Astars or Gaernes.

Yeah the soles aren't the best on Alpinestars boots, i wonder if the new gen Tech 10 is better in that regard. I would probably go with Sidi Crossfire 3 or Gaerne SG12 if i would buy a high-end boot without the inner boot! I have tried the Tech 7 but i feel like it doesn't have enough ankle support (same with Insticts) for my liking.

I need to find a place near me that stocks Sidi Crossfires so I can try a pair. Might be my next boot after these SG12s. I just hate buying a $500 pair of boots just to have to return ship them back and buy a different $500 pair lol.

I think the tech 10’s are now the only Astars made in Croatia. The rest are China I believe.

Wow, i would've thought that at least the Tech 7 and 8 would still be made in Europe.

The 7 is a great boot, great colorways but I don’t think it’s on par with the instinct, that boot is so comfortable that you can wear it bare foot !! Both are awesome boots tho

The tech 7 does not hinge well at the ankle and I feel like my foot is going to get stuck under the shifter on a jump. Thats my only complaint.

I just got some Fox instincts to try and have to say when I first put them on they where super comfortable flexible right out of the boot. Was really impressed. Came from a Tech 10.

Probably an un-popular opinion but in that price range I really like my O'Neal RDX. They are super comfy I really like the pair I got.

That being said, get the Alpinestars lol

I've had both. I replaced my Instincts after 5 rides with Tech 7's.

I have large calves, the Fox barely closed (with EVS braces) and the top buckle used to pop open when riding and I finally threw in the towel when the actual buckle itself on the boot came unscrewed with the buckle still attached. Because of the lack of velcro to secure it in place the top of boot popped open mid moto.

I've had my tech 7's for 14 months, minimal wear on the sole (others report very poor soles on these) and if you clean them after riding you get minimal staining so mine still look reasonably new!

Just my experience

I’ve had SG12s, tech 10, now I’m wearing tech 7.
I had the Sg10s back in the day and I loved those boots wore them till they got so broken down they hurt my ankles to wear them, got a set of SG12s and hated them. I’ve fell so many times in corners wearing them, I couldn’t fill the brake or the shifter very well with them I gave them a try for 6 months then went to Tech 10 good boot felt comfortable but blew the sides out in them super quick. I didn’t want to pay 600 for another set of boots so gave the 7s a try when they where discounted due to phasing our the color way and I also had Rocky Mountain cash. I snagged them up for 180 so seemed like a good deal and I’ve been happy with them. They feel like shoes to me and only real difference I feel between them and the 10 is the 10s feel little better ankle support. I have weak ankles broke both mine and the 7s do not aggravate or hurt to wear them.

Well, I unintentionally wound up with both Tech 7’s AND a pair of the all white 2019 Instincts. We will see how this goes.

Did you try them on? I have the tech 7s (don't like the bootie in the 10s) and I found some instincts in the same size and they wouldn't fit my feet. My cousin ended up buying them. I have wide feet and the toe of the fox seemed a bit narrower.
