Any news on how the tracks will be for the amateur supercross's that'll take place on Sunday after a few of the races this year. Tame stuff down significantly like the Daytona amateur sx or? Anyone plan on racing any?

I'm close to Anaheim and I'm tempted to go, but don't want to get landed on by some spode. I'll probably just be an observer this year and think about maybe doing it next year.

I heard they tame the track down, what i dont know is to what extent they tame it down. Im a decent rider and i usually podium the few times ive done local races (450 intermediate). But im definitely not a supercross rider and have little to no experience on a supercross track. I really wanna do this race but i dont want to waste my money embarrassing myself out on the track. Any one have more info or planning on racing too? Also will they have beginner classes? Pretty sure i wont be very fast for my first time racing supercross

If your racing on Anaheim on Sunday, make sure you get in the parking lot on Friday. If you come in on Saturday, it's $200 to park truck and trailer. I think motorhome also.

It looks like they will have a beginner class and a fair amount of classes. I'm thinking the same though, want to race the event but don't want to roll around if some of the jumps are to much. I want to see a preview of the track first before I spend the money.. maybe I'll hit the Glendale round.

Been thinking about it as well. +25 class! Might wait until next year though. Hopefully I'll be riding more than once every 2-3 months haha

Being the Old guy I am, I rode a few back in the early eighties. Yes the tracks are quite tame. Seems they are about the same as a Milestone main. Long days, short races but still fun memories. PS: they are looking for flaggers for the event. Last I heard it was $ 40 from 7am to 7pm. Don't quote me on the $ might even be less. If you go, have a good time

I raced San Diego in 2003. They left some of the track intact, but it was mostly watered-down. Nothing more serious than you'd likely find at any SoCal MX track. For instance, they mowed down the whoops so they were just rollers, the rhythm sections were set to "double, [space] double, [space] double," and the triples had the 3rd jump removed. Easy peasy.

I'm really tempted but it would a 6+ hour drive for me, and I kind of want to see how it goes this year before I commit to next year. I'm kind of the opposite of most here though, if I'm going down there I want to ride a real SX track, not some watered down version of it. I get maybe taking the triples and whoops down a bit, but leave the rhythms intact so we can really see what it's all about. I've never gotten the chance to even walk a SX track, so I really would like to get the full experience. I know that means there's going to be a lot of ambulance rides, but everyone can ride to the pace they feel comfortable, nobody is gonna make the beginner class jump through the rhythms. I'm sure I'm gonna get blasted but that's where I'm at, I just want a chance to challenge myself in a new discipline.

So I was moderately thinking about it this year in PHX, but my wife has put her foot down and said no bueno. Too much at risk right now in the personal life, business, family etc. Can't afford any serious injuries and time away from our business. That said, we have a couple of SX tracks out here in AZ - ACP and Motoland. ACP recently changed their normal SX track to "tame" it down so riders out here in AZ can practice a few months before the Phoenix Amateur SX races. I rode the track the first weekend it was open to riders. It was a zoo with everyone getting out there trying it out. I was able to get on late in the day when there were little to no other riders. They essentially tamed down the landings on the triples (rounded them off) so if you come up in between the double and triple, you won't completely yard-dart into the face of the triple. It's "savable", but its a hard landing still. However, the jump take offs and sweet spots on the landings are the same as the normal SX track. The rhythm sections were the same as usual on the SX track - I don't think they did anything to them. The whoops were smoothed out, but were still whoops. I could easily blitz them. The big SX double was exactly as it was on the normal SX track with the normal gap - and if you come up short, you're getting hurt. If you've never ridden or even rolled an actual SX track, it's seriously eye opening.

What I learned is, the margin for error is so much less than in MX. You have to be very precise with your marks and if you get a little off rhythm in a rhythm section, it can be painful. The pro's make things look so easy.

I don't know what they will do for the actual track changes, but if it is anything like they did at ACP, it's not that much. They just made the triples landings safer and the whoops safer. Riding it successfully is one thing in itself. RACING it will be a whole 'nother discussion.

I['m going to go to the Phoenix amateur event to check it all out for next year. I plan to work on my skills this year in prep for next year. Right now, my expectation is it's still above my ability - especially to "race".

So for anyone that's done this before in recent years, is there anything I should know if I'm pitting out of just a pick up truck? I'd like to be prepared for any unexpected and/or ridiculous expenses that are not mentioned in the rule book, like the $200 parking mentioned above... Is that only for motorhomes or what?

As for the track difficulty there are videos on youtube from previous years as well as amateur RCSX and amateur AX videos as well as Mini Os that all give a good indication of what to expect. They typically look to be very tamed down from the night before.

So you normally "podium" in the 450B class, and now you're thinking about racing the beginner class?
Why not just go buy a trophy and tell everybody at work how awesome you are.....

See, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I come from a bmx background and I like the technical aspects of riding a lot more than bombing down a rough straightaway in 5th gear aiming for a little rut. I’m not expecting a stellar outcome, I’d be more than happy just to double through sections and get a little flow going, but that’s exactly the point, without challenging yourself you can never improve.

Take endurocross for example. The bottom line is most riders don’t belong anywhere near an EX track, but instead of just making it inaccessible to everyone and leaving it at that, every round there is a huge amateur presence and the series is pretty much built around the amateur classes to get people racing. The first time I tried it I absolutely sucked, which is to be expected, but over time I’ve only gotten better at it. I feel like SX tracks would be the same way, with practice I could get it down decently well, but it’s pretty much impossible to find anywhere to really try it. We’ll see how the races go this year, but hopefully they leave it somewhat difficult just to give riders a new challenge to take on.

I was actually thinking of racing the novice class. And i wouldnt consider myself a true 450b rider. The small races ive done didnt have stacked tallent, which is why i can usually podium. the one time i did a big race, (2 stroke national), i got smoked and placed like 12th. Plus i dont ride supercross, which means ima be very slow, and every body will be sand bagging classes. And i could give a shit about a trophy. Im doing this for the fun of it,

I'll be waiting to see how A2 looks to decide if to make the trip to Glendale from Texas. But if its anything like the Atlanta amateur day last year, I wont be going. Tamed down is an understatement of the track they had last year. Your local 65 front runner could jump everything no problem. You can find videos of it on YouTube. Kindergarten track at best.
