Anyone ever ridden a 05 125sx ?

I a just got a 05 125sx from a buddy of mine for really cheap. The bike is in very good condition. I haven't gotten to ride it yet so i was wondering if anyone here has had experience riding one. From the little reviews i have read online it sounds like the suspension will need to be played with. I am currently putting fork seals and a needle valve in one of the forks right now.

Overall i am going to be racing this bike in harescrambles so i want to know all the quirks and things with KTM's since i am only really familiar with Yamaha's. Thanks

I had an 04 (almost exactly the same bike) and I loved it even in standard trim. They feel really light when you're riding and the things turn on a dime.

Only real down side to them is that they seem to shake everything loose so if you're going to go through it before you start using anyway then I'd suggest using Loctite when you put it back together.

Not an 05, but had an 03. Man I loved that bike. It felt pretty fast! Brakes worked very well.

Never really had any issues with it.

I bought one for my wife a couple years ago, its a great bike. Though I bought it for my wife I occasionally take it out to race and smile riding it the whole time. The bike rips and pulls my 210lb butt just fine around a track, just don't let off the gas Wink

I had one. Great motor I think it was the fastest 125 that year. The chassis, kinda big and long if I remember right. I cut my subframe and that fixed the stink bug feel. Overall it was a good bike for me.

Very fast bike, lot of bottom end for a 125. The brakes are a bit aggresive. I don´t remember it being big, but I am tall so not sure about that. I don´t remember the suspensions being bad. The problem was the bike is too agile and not stable at high speed, head shake was a problem.

We had an 05 model back then, as all 125 KTMs, it was awesome. Lots of power, light and fun to ride. We never had any real problems with it. Try to get youur hands on a VHM or RR cylinder head and a Doma exhaust system.

One easy trick to adjusting the chain. With the bike on a stand and the back tire off the ground, take off the shock, its only two bolts and will come out easy. Then move you swing arm through its range of motion and check your chain tension. And set your sag set your sag set your sag.
Oh and nice bike!!

One starting point you should consider is adjusting the chain

It actually needs a new chain. The side to side play is terrible. Got one on the way.

Over the past 5 or so years I have developed a hatred for all things orange. That being said, i owned an 04 sx125 and absolutely loved the thing! I even took it to the dunes a few times.

I rode for a ktm shop for a few years......we had an '05 125sx that went to all the races as a spare bike. It was and still is a great bike (still have it around) its ported and has an fmf fatty on it and it absolutely screams.
I've raced moto on it, bombed the woods with it and ice raced it.
'05 is the best year of the old style ktm's because of the oval frame.
Absolutely love it.

Nothing more fun than a 125 with a set of fredette ice tires
