Anyone listen to music while riding?

I just got a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus that I can load music on so I'm considering throwing my airpods on before riding. How many people listen to music while riding?

If you do what type of music gives you a good flow?

I get that and knew that would be one of the first responses. I have always noticed that when I sing I get into a good flow while riding and end up being smoother.

Do not ride a motorcycle while wearing headphones and listening to music. It's incredibly stupid.

I can't run, cycle, mountain bike, lift weights, mow the lawn, clean the garage, etc., without music. But never when I moto, it's distracting to me.

Just put audio to one ear. Put your settings on mono, not stereo. Not too loud. Listen to whatever you usually listen to and see what you end up like riding to. It's not for everyone or all the time but I think certain times and types of riding permit.

I race Hare Scrambles and there is quite a few guys I see wearing headphones while racing. Obviously I'm comfortable multi tasking and will make sure I can hear all other bikes.

Never tried it during Moto, but i cant snowboard without it. Kind of funny, but the 1st few times i tired it - i hated it. Felt like it was distracting and ate shit more than usual. Then after about the 3rd day with them it just kind of clicked. The feeling of bombing the mountain while rocking out or going down a half pipe with some good gangster rap is epic! I have always wanted to try it for moto, so please keep us posted if you end up trying it!

I find it interesting that you guys would rather listen to music on a road bike and street bike vs moto and off road. I'm the exact opposite lol I don't trust the drivers! I have to keep my head on a swivel when on the road. I almost got hit by a City Bus one time when I was in the bike lane and I started putting only one ear bud in my right ear on low volume after that. If someone on the clock got that close, I can only imagine what distracted drivers are capable of. I don't listen to music while riding on the track or during a race though. Usually only trail riding.

Riding my street bike I love it. But I use a Sena system. I dont like ear buds in while I am riding. Dirt bikes, Ive done it, but I def dont feel as aware.

I listen to music quite a bit of the time I am riding and it puts me into a good mood to crank away the trail miles. I don't use it much around others or at the track because it can be a pain to turn it off to hear what your friends are saying.

The flow comes from metal usually, but sometimes a good country playlist is just what you need while cruising the backcountry.

I always clip trees when I did. That’s a been a big no for me the last few years.

When I am on my road bike(bicycle) and I listen to a podcast, it’s at a low volume and I can still hear what is going on around me. Most of the time I run my cyclocross bike and am running bike trail, dirt or gravel so not too worried about traffic. I don’t ride motorcycles on the street, if I did I doubt I would be listening to anything.

I used to only when practicing at home but never when I was at a race. Id like to try it with Bluetooth buds. when I was doing it I was still using wired head phones and the wire would get pulled by my chesty or neck brace and pull the bud out of my ear. I just stopped doing it . Less to worry about .

I do it all the time. I have one of the Ipod Nano things and i set it for 20 minutes or whatever. It plays and does a countdown (halfway there, two minutes left, etc) as i ride. No matter what....the sound of the bike is much louder than the music so it's not really a danger. Helps keep me riding and focusing on doing longer motos. The flattest earphones that i have found are cheaper Sony earphones.

I tried it one time back in the early 90's and had a walkman. Well 4 laps in I bust my ass on a table top and crushed the walkman. Put a bruise on my hip and in the shape of the walkman.

Never again have I tried.

I ride off road mostly, and pick a channel on Pandora that suits my temperament at the time. Nothing like some good old Highway Men to get you pushing the pace or some Rage Against the Machine to flat out hammer down. It’s weird how if a certain song comes on how it can affect your attitude, and thus your riding. Helps me get into a flow for sure.

I’ve done it while going for long rides in the desert and single track plenty of times and it’s something I really enjoy. Very similar to flowing on a snowboard but it can bite you if you get reckless.
Broke my wrist going over the bars hitting a rain rut while cooking on a Jeep trail in 6th gear about 5 second after Drakes lyric on that 6god track said “watch your mf’n tone boy, get hurt boy”... I’ll never forget that.... or ride trails alone again lol

But yes I’ll still wear headphones while riding

I tend to agree, music on the way to the track...Offspring is what gets me going (I'm a mechanic and my rider also gets pumped with the OS) but ive tried in the past (when I did ride) to ride with music and its s major distraction. I cant do it.

Never done it on a dirtbike but do it every time I go snowmobiling. I bought chubby buttons so I could easily play/pause/next/previous/vol+/vol- but sledding is not as involved as moto so it works. Even at 100% volume I can still hear my sled very well so I know you’ll be able to hear your bike. I have a feeling the bike will be so loud it will be hard to hear the music. Might need to invest in an electric bike and avoid battles if there’s any hope of hearing your tunes.
